Seen & Heard: Swisscom Opens Digital LabOn Wednesday, Swisscom opened the doors on a new digital lab that was designed to give companies a place to develop their own digital transformation projects. The lab, which is located on École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne -- EPFL) campus, was the end result of a strategic partnership between Swisscom AG (NYSE: SCM) and EPLF that was announced in December. The Swisscom Digital Lab, which is based in a French-speaking area of Switzerland, is focused on teaching students about digital technologies including artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and cloud computing. Swisscom said its enterprise customers could book time in the lab to work on their prototype projects. During the project realization phase, the companies share their expertise and collaboration with the lab’s interdisciplinary teams, who in turn offer support -- such as software, coaching and technology -- for the development of an initial product. In the last phase, customers can kick the tires on DevOps working processes and prototyping techniques, which are designed to help them get their new projects off of the ground. In addition to the digital lab, the partnership between Swisscom and EPFL is also developing a digital innovation ecosystem to support, for example, startups and digital-based events. The areas of focus ranges from artificial intelligence, robotics and the Internet of Things to big data and data storage systems. — Mike Robuck, Editor, Telco Transformation |
