Building Blocks for IoT PlatformsInternet of Things (IoT) products and services are a maturing market for telecom operators, according to a recent report by Heavy Reading. According to operators and observers that were surveyed by Heavy Reading , 2016 will likely see significant momentum build behind IoT, including operators' involvement in platforms and applications. The report, "IoT Platforms: Chasing Value in a Maturing Market," examines the market for horizontal, multi-sector platforms that enable IoT applications. Research by Gartner Inc. forecast that 6.4 billion connected devices and products will be in use worldwide in 2016, up 30% from 2015 and will reach 20.8 billion by 2020. In 2016, 5.5 million new "things" are getting connected every day, according to Gartner.
