All about resources and mentoring
in my view, the telcos that will be successful at this are the ones that offer resources and mentoring, while not trying to impose conditions and culture on developers and innovators.

The smart ones will hire a developer as a consultant....

Re: All about resources and mentoring
Lightray, I would agree and further add that the "system" that makes it work is what DT is setting up with Cisco and Intel in the Intelligent System.  Increasingly, these platforms that feed and support the complete value chain provide added opportunity.

I would further add that the "culture" provided by Cisco and Intel will go a long way to developing the markets for the IoT startups.

@bayte, good clarification.  This is a new paradigm and totally different context.

Re: All About Resources
@bayte, no, you are just putting things in context.  The pace of change is definitely speeding up and the compounding of technologies (i.e., IoT), only makes these changes appear to be coming faster and faster.

It is true, change now is less an "event" as much as an ongoing presence.  So I think we will begin to expect it as a constant.  Fasten your seatbelts!

Fits with Industrie 4.0 approach
I've been speaking with Deutsche Telekom about Industrie 4.0 and they clearly see a critical role for themselves as the entity that can bring companies from different parts of the value chain together to work on IoT services. The outreach to startups obviously fits well with this approach. When might we see some of these technologies being supported in Deutsche Telekom's enterprise offerings, I wonder?

Re: Fits with Industrie 4.0 approach
@Iain, that's a great vision!  I believe if they provide that platform for DevOps and innovations in IoT they will build an excellent sustainable capability to provide the service, connections, and a link to ongoing development.  This foundation, along with driving partnerships in the value chain, gives them a strong market position.

As you say, when/where will the first innovations take place and the results of their Value Chain; I believe that will demonstrate the real ROI.
