standards
I'm not quite clear on this: are we supposed to consider more standards a good thing or a bad thing? Earlier on it sounds like a bad thing: "You've got a half dozen activities going on from a standards perspective and they are somewhat disparate." But at the end, it seems to be offered as a reflection of lots of options and a good thing:"There are going to be more standards as both cellular and cable look at how you put the most efficient bits per hertz platform in place so you can take advantage of both broadband, such as HFC, and cellular networks."
Re: standards
He is saying that there are too many standards (by too many groups) floating around for IoT. As for the last part, he is saying that the current standards for both cellular and cable are evolving, which is to be expected given the advancements in the various technologies.

Re: standards
@Mike thanks. I pick up on a connotation of optimism at the end. I take it that he believe that the evolution will lead to improvement, as opposed to the kind of confusion that he seems to assign to the status quo of too many groups. Is that your take?

@Ariella I would say we gonna see as time will tell...

Re: standards
@Batye certainly, the trick is guessing in advance which way to go, something that predictive analytics based on big data is supposed to help. Still there are no guarantees

Re: standards
@Ariella even with top of the line A.I. we still count not know the future.... but predictive analytics based on big data is a big help in many cases...if used properly...
Re: standards
@bayte:
Ofcourse we can never expect to be certain with anything when it comes to future. That's a given. But it's all prediction based on analystical studies. How much data we can capture and how efficiently we can analyze, undersatnd that data and foresee or predict the upcoming trend is THE key factor. That eventually facilitates any organization to set / reset their goals.
Re: standards
@Ariella:
Absolutely no guaranties with anything. But when it comes to predictive analysis, capturing right data and applying accurate analytical measures is very critical. DATA can say so many stories.

Re: standards
Agreed, and being informed is always a help even if you can't get all the answers about all the variables. Forwarned is forearmed, as they say.
Re: standards
Ariella, Not speaking for Joe Jensen, but the whole standards issue with NFV, SDN and IoT has a lot of sorting out to do. In regards to OFDM, it's probably more straightforward since cable and celluar have standars that are in place, but just need tweaked.

Re: standards
I see. Tweaked definitely less of an undertaking.
Big Data
One thing that caught my attention is - Big Data.
There are no doubts that DATA would be the key factor going forward. In any enterproise there is huge effort and focus on data and data analytics. Business leaders are so keen into looking into analystical data to understand what happened in the past and how does the trend look like, What are the changes required to shape the future of the enterprise to make sure goals are met. It is very certain that both business and technology leadership is equally valuing data and related intiatives to make sure there would be accurate and efficient application of both in the industry.
