Poll: Company Culture Is King for Digital Transformations
The digital transformations can be very good and powerful. This will be bring it to a sucess part stage but it can be hard for the downcommers parts. The company culture is up to date with the technology. The technology can be hard for some updates witht he software systems.

ms.akkineni, indeed.  If the choice is support, oppose, or hold off - that results in a true choice to oppose and truly creates a weak link.  When everyone knows we are moving forward and you are invited(expected) to move the new direction, the choices are clear.  Actually, that clarity provides a foundation and level of security that helps the transformation.

Re: Company Culture Is King
if people are made aware of "the vision" and ideally exactly what that "vision" / change will mean to them the majority will usually see the benefits (an important component), and become champions or at least neutral.

@MDSmith: You made an absolutely important point. Often times people don't undersatnd what change really means to them unless that could be mapped to their personal benefit or growth in long term. If an employee can align anything related to the change to their personal goals, then you can expect that person to be obviously striving to do better and best with that.

So it is not an "either/or".....

@DHagar: True, If something is emphasized as 'mandatory' then result would be more certain. So it's up to management that really sets the expectation prior to any change initiative. It is normal human tendency to hang in there as long as there is an option of 'either/or'...

Re: Company Culture Is King
MDSmith, I fully agree.  And I agree with the part of human resistance to change in this way - if they lose power and are not a part of the implementation of change, they will fully resist.  They will accept change, if not embrace change, if they can participate in how it is carried out; which takes us to the original premise of effective leadership and company culture.

So it is not an "either/or", it requires leadership and bottom line participation to truly have a culture that is willing and will participate in transformation.

Re: Company Culture Is King
@DHagar - at the risk of being too specific it is human nature to resist change - that will not change.  However, you are absolutely correct that if people are made aware of "the vision" and ideally exactly what that "vision" / change will mean to them the majority will usually see the benefits (an important component), and become champions or at least neutral.

As you state, you need to build this change capability within the organization if the transformation is to be completely successful and in reality CHANGE the organization.

Re: Company Culture Is King
msakkineni, congratulations - it sounds as if you were the winner!  Great example of the human (culture) issues involved.

That is the other point about change, it requires both a soft (sensitivity to outlining successful pathways for people to succeed with the change) and hard approach (the company is moving forward with this change - so you can participate/succeed or find yourself on the outside).  The important thing is that everyone becomes a winner because the company uniformly aligns around the new transformations - which includes everyone - and eliminates (usually by choice) those that do not fit the new direction.

Re: Company Culture Is King
While "clear leadership" normally provides sufficient direction in North America and Europe I don't believe this is sufficient in the Asia / Asia Pacific regions.

@MDSmith: Very good point !!! And I completely agree with you on that.

Couple years ago I had to relocate to India and spent there 2.5 years. During my stay I worked for a company that is a global leader. I had an opportunity to witness the lack of clarity in several occassions. But that is surely improving.
