Gigabit Era
This is a great value for consumer rate of things. It will bring numbers to the table and will also bring the production rate higher because of the projects that are forming with the consumers. This will be great for the companys that will want to step up the software/technology sytems.

Arguing against the new broadband definition...
Also, the FCC's latest definition of broadband (25Mbps up/ 3 down) hasn't been all that popular with some providers... so neither the supply nor the demand is really there yet for Gigabit internet service. It may be the dawn, but the sun is barely showing at this point.

Re: Google Fiber coming to Europe?
I think most consumers would be happy getting >50Mbps speeds, and wouldn't really know what to do with that much more.

Plus, if the data caps are really put in place... Gigabit speeds would exceed the proposed data caps well before the month of service was up!

Re: Google Fiber Coming To Europe?
ms.akkineni, I am with you on the personal consumer value.  Those "added features" aren't a necessity for most consumers.  I believe that they may, however, be attracted to a public/private commercial hub that would offer those "connected" features.

Re: Google Fiber Coming To Europe?
@Mitch / @Mike / @DHagar :

I am completely inline with you folks. I certainly wouldn't deny that gigabit is surely picking the trend but I clearly see that at present it is more into commercial world. I would have to say it still in evolving stage when it comes to average household consumer usage. I am not convinced enough that I will be in need of all gogabit capabilities yet.

Re: Google Fiber Coming To Europe?
@bayte, interesting.  At what stage is/was Canada?  Who were the players involved (i.e., public/private)?  And how did it evolve?

Has the development and growth been complete and is it sustainable, or is it experiencing the fragmentation I referred to that we are encountering in the US?

How do you see Canada evolving with IoT?
