@dlr: I think it's because AT&T and DirecTV are "different enough."  Are they both carriers/service providers?  Absolutely!  But we think of AT&T as a phone company and DirecTV as being in the cable/satellite TV vertical.

But you're right.  It presents a good argument for the lack of consistency in allowing this one but disallowing AT&T's proposed buyout of T-Mobile.

Interesting (and on point) that you mention AI.  One of the difficulties with that kind of data -- even where it is structured -- is that it often contains human forms of expression -- which we will need cognitive learning systems to interpret, analyze, and make recommendations therefrom.

True, good point!

I also liked the part in this article bout the problems that they faced with the merger. It was difficult to get the sign off. Overall though I'm glad that AT&T and DirecTV made the decision to merge because I think it makes a lot of sense on both parts.

As long as they keep the customers the first priority, which this aticle states, I don't see any problem with the merger.

@dir5288--I agree. The article sounds as if they are keeping customers as their number one consideration, but we'll have to see how it plays out. As someone else said, we do consider DirecTV to be more cable-based and AT&T to be more phone-based, but there is crossover...and neither one has the best track record for customer service, so maybe this merger will help...?

True, good point.

I'm not exactly sure how these two will end up with the merger, just because they are so different. True, they don't have the best track record with clients, but hopefully this merger will make them both work harder. Especially when it comes to the consumers.
