Re: Silicon Valley roots?
@batye: yes it is a global village--no question. But being witness to transformation entails us to be smart, strategic and not, per se, buy into the hype that some of the players may wish to push. It is up to us to make the call.

@mpouraryan yes, you are right and I could not agree more, but we live in the global world, global economy...

Re: Silicon Valley roots?
As I read thru the discourse, I can't but wonder that the concept of value should be something that should be embraced by all on a constant and consistent basis.

@Batye: If one wanted to be scared by the Economy, many of the investments will stop. Sometimes it is during downturns that some of the greatest investments are made. It is in the end about the risk to achieve an end result.

Re: Silicon Valley roots?
The need to be able to "think beyond the now" is vital ever more. I can't help but laugh at where we've been, though--especially as I was running Lotus Notes on a 486 over a dial-up--and how we're seeing things coming out of Barcelona is blowing me away.

Re: Silicon Valley roots?
Ariella, interesting research. His words are worth reading!
To the point of value, clearly a company that stays competitive and produces goods and services that customers want will produce value - a great focus!

Re: Silicon Valley roots?
jbtombes, I am with you. Both with his experience in Silicon Valley and his education, he truly is a visionary. And that is unique, unfortunately. With his leadership I predict AT&T will continue to be highly competitive.

Re: Silicon Valley roots?
@jbtomes maybe he reveals some of that in the books that he wrote back in 1998 and 1999. At that point, he seemed focus on value as that is the key word in both titles: The Value Enterprise, published in January 1998, and Value Creating Growth, published in 1999.
