What was developed by these guys:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1598272670/chip-the-worlds-first-9-computer/

is a step in this direction.

Interesting times we live in!!

Re: as technology develops
@mpouraryan, I think you are right.  The US definitely leads in the science and advancement of technology, but I am not certain we are the leaders in digital lifestyles.  I think other parts of the world have a more even digital development and in some cases are more advanced.

Re: as technology develops
@mhhf1ve, maybe the continued development of "platforms" could eventually become a "host" to outreach into these unprofitable, jurisdictional, regulated areas that have resulted in limited choice.

Re: as technology develops
In my experience, the customer does matter--However, sometimes I have written on issues of concern--and have never heard back.   But I was impressed, for instance, with the folks at Twenty20 (an app I work on for @DailyOutsider curating an Photo Album) that was quite forthcoming on the question and then followed it up with a survey.    it can only get better.

Re: as technology develops
It is true @Dhagar--but I would argue though that certain parts of the World have been truly on the cutting edge--I never forget the digitized school in South Korea when we here in the United States could hardly find funds for just one single computer lab.   Things are a lot better now--but we are still leaps and bounds behind--and the digital divide is yet to be closed.

Re: as technology develops
I remain hopeful--although my hope at times seems naive @mhhf1ve.    For instance,  I see the evolution on personal computing with Rasperry Pi, the 9 Dollar Computer Chip, the Block Smart watch as some recent examples.    What I see on Kickstarter is fascinating and through who I work for, The Daily Outsider, we try and support such up and comers because we have to.   The problem is that the majors have quite a monopoly and that monopoly is becoming increasingly tough to crack--when Amazon is talking about creating its' own delivery network, one wonders.....

Re: as technology develops
Hopefully, technology will force more markets to expand so natural monopolies can't form or are disrupted. It's happening slowly already, but there are still a few things that even technology can't avoid -- like spectrum regulation and pole access rights.

Re: as technology develops
@mhhf1ve, thanks for making that key point - you are absolutely correct.  Unfortunately, the evolution has been uneven and in some markets there clearly is a monopoly or limited choices - in those markets the customers are totally at the mercy of the provider.  Hopefully those markets will continue to deliver to expand those choices!

Re: as technology develops
> "the customer is indeed king today."

Hm. Depends on what market? Some customers don't have the option to switch to other providers, so the leverage of canceling a contract doesn't exist.

Some technologies have indeed made a whole new ecosystem of options available to the customer, but there are still some choke points where only a handful of competitors exist.

Re: People
I noticed that, too--and liked it. The consumers (and the people behind the digitization) are the ones that really drive digital forward.
