Re: Standards...
Good point!

What exactly are the standards when the standards are changing day by day? It's difficult to have a set standard because technology is always evolving. The standard a few months ago isn't the one today.

Re: Alliances
Yes, I agree 100%

Obviously not everyone is going to agree on everything, but understanding that and agreeing to disagree in order to move forward is crucial. Very well said and I couldn't agree more. Progress will be made in technology if more people understand this.

Re: Standards...
With every new cycle of technological upgrades, it seems like there's a battle over standards. The network effects of "being first" and then subsequently being able to control the market for years afterwards drives these battles, but is there are better way?

Re: Standards...
Also we are not yet at a state where we can consider standards as final standards. As these are evolving concepts / trends / technolgies standards also would be pretty much evolving on an ongoing basis. There are number of dynamic or moving parts that would impact pretty much everything. We should be ready to be tuned well as required at all times.

Re: Alliances
@dlr5288:

Getting everyone to agree on everything is a different story.

I have a diffent thought when it comes to Alliances. I don't think we will get everyone's agreement on everything at any time. I believe that is not necessary. What is needed though is "agreeing to disagree wherever required" and still to be in sync with the bigger picture. Ideally that's the kind of Alliance what is much needed in the entreprise. Hope you agree with me. :)

Re: Standards...
Can't agree more. We need a framework to be in placebefore we move on to establish standards. I personally voted for framework for the same reason.

Alliances
Getting everyone to agree and be on the same page is very hard task. I think being on the same page is doable though. Getting everyone to agree on everything is a different story.

In a perfect world, yes it would be ideal for everyone to agree on things, but chances are that will not happen.

I voted for more alliances. I think businesses coming together to help each one individually isn't done enough. I know that competition is a factor, but I think many businesses would do well helping out one another.

Re: interesting to know
As someone who cut his "teeth" in the Partner Ecosystem, it was surprising that the TELCO poll was not as vibrant as was evident.     I personally voted for Open Systems because that is where I see the future is--Partners can jump in to help with the advances that we've all be witness to and expect.
