Re: Increase
Yes really no surprise here!

Everyone is alays being connected to the internet today with their cell phones. It seems like people are starting to use computers and laptops less and less because of the advancements in cell phones. Personaly, I only think this will only get worse and worse with the new transformation in phones.

@freehe: "Forces" may not be the right word.  "Compels" is a little less inaccurate.  "Coerces" is a bit more like it.

It's like selling those clamshell plastic packagings that are impossible to open without hurting yourself...and also selling Band-Aids.  ;)

Joe Stanganelli, I agree. It forces you to continue to buy new products and services that you may or may not need.

@elizabethv: Certainly.  You have IoT technology, you need additional tech to realize full capabilities of the technology, and you then are inclined to make additional purchases to act on the data you're getting.

A self-creating market.  ;)

Re: Increase
ElizabethV, it's what an economist (who isn't being bribed by a politician or businessperson) would call "market saturation" and for which s/he would try to fit a "diffusion curve." Much of the 80s-00s tech boom, both products and services, is now down to limited growth via late adopters; IoT tech, the hoped-for basis of the 20s-30 tech boom, is currently in the early adoption stage when growth is just about to be explosive.  For folks who read mathematical economics moderately well, this paper is no tougher than 2nd year college microeconomics/price theory and does a nice job of explaining the underlying basis.

Marketing people in the tech industry do have a woeful tendency to think that because the roof is currently dry, it's never going to rain again.

It is really interesting that the Internet of Things is projecting an increase in sales, while technology in general, has sales that are predicted do drop. Though the difference is slightly obvious, in that just about anyone has access internet. With a cell phone you're generally locked into a contract you can't get out of without paying a crazy fee. Most people have to have and keep internet to ensure they have adequate covering.
