Re: Original Programming FTW
LOL @mhhf1ve A few years ago, we took some kids along on a day trip, and one of this did say "awesome" without irony for just about anything. My own teen daughter doesn't really use the word, but it wouldn't fit with her personality either.

I looked into guides for what the members of Gen Z do say and found this: http://mccrindle.com.au/the-mccrindle-blog/how_to_speak_generation_z_alphabet_slang_flip_cards I'm not certain it is universal, though.

Re: Original Programming FTW
Go90 doesn't cost VZW customers anything... it's zero rated, meaning that VZW users aren't charged for any of the data used for that app (which should run afoul of net neutrality, but...), so it's not a direct revenue generator for VZW.

This *could* be an ad revenue generator for VZW -- as an OTT app like Youtube or Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Instant Video, etc, etc... and it definitely looks targeted at "Generation Z" or whatever you want to called "kids" these days.

And Go90 doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to mobile devices.. I'm sure kids can also watch Go90 on AppleTV (or via Chromecast) on 60" LCD screens in a living room, too. Not exactly sure why that "feature" seems to be buried, but... presumably, VZW wants to make sure "kids" are eating up mobile data and getting used to doing so -- so that they'll continue to do it with other apps and eat up more mobile data from their parent's cell phone plans.

But the name "AwesomeTV" sounds so... Gen X trying to sound Millennial. I don't think GenZ kids ever say "awesome" without irony.

Re: Original Programming FTW
I cannot see how Verizon is planning on winning people heart's over with the G90. The cost of data is too much for most family to have their kid's watch tv show on a small cellphone when they can enjoy the program on a big 60' 4k tv. The best way for Verizon is to provide a free Wi-Fi base service with the help of its own FiOS data service. Then they are able to provide G90 a lot better to anyone that like to use that form of service. I do not see the 5g as a win to Verizon when most people try not to use their data and Wi-Fi is still the best way to be able to receive text and voice call over there cellphone.

I think you nailed it. Revenue from ads and from data usage.

Original Programming FTW
It looks like original series with niche audiences (that can be demographically tracked and targeted) are going to be more popular. Netflix has only half the equation because it doesn't serve ads. Presumably, Hulu and Go90 and YouTube and Twitch (etc, etc, etc) are all going to try to out-do Netflix's audience capture with exclusive content and targeted ads....
