Re: Original Programming FTW
It is, but just like any programming it has to be quality to make money and if they are just pouring money into less than par programming simply to have a full line up, they are not going to get a decent return on investment if any.

Re: Original Programming FTW
@afwriter Certainly. When Netflix offers original programming, though, it does so on the basis of a lot of data about what its subscribers like to see, so it does put the big data odds in its favor for original content.  Netflix accounts for it in this way:

When we started with original content we didn't have specific data about viewing patterns over time for content that premieres on Netflix.  We decided to use straight line amortization based on our experience with TV series from other networks.  Now we have more specific viewing data for original content which shows more viewing in the early months of a show's debut, so we are accelerating the amortization of such content commensurately.

Re: Original Programming FTW
@Batye strange, Netflix would have to pay for the programs even in the US. I would think the company just thinks that there's not eough demand for those shows in Canada to warrant it. It's an interesting thing about Netflix's international presence: it used to include geography in its segmentations for its predictive algorithms; now it groups people by common interests.

Verizon Buys a Stake in AwesomenessTV
This is very interesting because it is rare to find a good stake with the technolgy they run these days. I think it will be a good idea to go along with it. It will bring more moves to the table by the decion of this stake and we are looking forward where it goes in the future.
