Interesting
IoT is one of my biggest industry interests, so I love all of it, but in this infogrpahic the thing I find the most interesting is the 150 million connected cars.

Re: Interesting
@afwriter well, Nuance already claimed to cover over 90 million of them over a year ago with its Dragon Drive platform, so it's not so surprising that the number would increase to 150 million.

Pharmaceuticals?
The $75 million "opportunity" in counterfeit drugs - is that the potential for IoT to smoke out the fakes through smarter manufacturing? No doubt next-gen pharma is also going to use IoT in R&D, deliverables, patient compliance, etc.

Re: Pharmaceuticals?
@jbtombes,

Counterfeit drug area is likely to grow very, very fast because it's an arms race; both sides will be buying devices. (In the same way that for a different kind of drugs, some of the same tech used to detect counterfeits can be used to make better ones (the same way that some largish number of contraband-drug sniffing and detecting devices intended for law enforcement are now being used by drug dealing organizations). As simple analyzers become cheaper and more common (so that they can be used for, e.g., at-the-store or at-the-doctors-office enforcement), they'll also become a common tool for home patient use (to identify which drugs are "real counterfeits", i.e. the right drug manufactured by someone other than the patent holder) and which are "fake counterfeits" (i.e. sugar pills or purposely mislabelled drugs).

Re: Pharmaceuticals?
The $75 million is the amount that counterfit drugs are costing the pharma companies each year. Verizon has already started its "track and trace" service that puts sensors in each shipment, from pallets all the way down to small boxes of drugs.

Re: Pharmaceuticals?
Thanks, Mike...and ultimately I'm guessing into the indvidual dosage, to ensure patient compliance. Some drugs are pretty expensive. The (digestable?) sensor might end up being a fraction total cost.
