Re: Vodofone
@faryl:

Interesting information to know about Internet usage being challenged as a basic right. Thanks for the info.

Re: Vodofone
That's part of the reason there's  been some civil rights-related movements around internet usage as well.

The federal government currently can stipulate that internet access is a violation of a person's Supervised Release terms when they are released from prison. (Supervised Release is different from parole, in that the person has served their full sentence before release).

I think someone may have actually won their lawsuit against the government because the courts agreed that internet is a basic right, as is phone and electricity. (I'll have to get my google on tonight or tomorrow and see if I can find a related link about it)

Re: Good Alliance
Yes, I am aware and have heard about Amazon and Google using similar approach with labs for new innovations. And I believe that proved to be succesful for them.

Lets wait to see the outcome of this combo initiative from Vodafone and Huawei. Hope that results in many more innovations.

Re: Vodofone
This is so unfortunate.

Same here, I can't even envision myself in that situation. If we think about we have become so internet addicts. Sometimes we tend to think we should make ourselves off the hook with devices etc, that all sounds so good may be for a couple of days or a week. But beyond that I wouldn't consider that to be pratcical atleast in my case.

Re: Vodofone
That's interesting to know. I could never think of anyone at this age and time trying to find a job opportunity without using online resources. I am not positive if all jobs would be published in alternate sorces like newspapers any more. There may be some but not many for sure.

Re: Good Alliance
The use of tech labs to innovate and brand has a rich history. Many companies, such as HP, Google and Amazon have made use of big budgets to invent and develop new ideas in such labs. Hopefully, it will be just as successful for Huaweii and Vodafone for refining products and apps to better connect the world through NB-IoT.

Re: Vodofone
There are indeed pockets where "access" is a challenge.     When "AOL" is still making money on Dial-Up, one underscores the challenge.   But that's changing big time--and if and when local governments get their act together in pushing municipal wi-fi access--that would be a true game changer.

Dreaming on...

Re: Vodofone
Right? I think that's why AT&T has recently introduced affordable ($5-10/month) internet for people with lower incomes - it's similar to the lifeline program which makes sure (almost) everyone can afford to have a phone, since that's so necessary for doing anything.

My boyfriend had to try to find a job without any access to the internet. Even having someone look online for listings for him didn't help, since most jobs required an online application.

Re: Vodofone
Very good points and I agree.

To me it's crazy to think about people in the US that don't have internet. For me the internet is a very crucial part of my life. When I was in college for the past four years, I couldn't imagine not having the internet...it's almost laughable to think about. I don't know how people do it!

Re: Price of Tea in China
I still haven't figured out how to get my roku connected to my remote and I've had it for several years.

I think it uses infrared or bluetooth - I'm sure those technologies will be outdated by the time I figure it out!
