ESPN?
None of these is higher than 6%. Pretty low penetration. Big question for OTT and sports is when ESPN would cross that line. And how much they'd charge. MoffetNathanson pegged price at $36/month earlier this year.

Re: ESPN?
I subscribed to Game Pass last year to watch my favorite NFL team, which is out of market in my area. One downside: I don't have regular cable, so I could not watch the in-market team on Game Pass, as the service blocks that. But overall, it's a good package and I am thinking about getting it again this season.
Re: ESPN?
I guess I'm part of the 84% that does not--which I suppose can be considered a "distinction". The question that is yet to be "sorted out" as I see it is the future of the general networks including ESPN (which was a bit of a drag on Disney Earnings), Fox Sports/Etc.

@batye: The competition will get a lot more fierce--no question. The challenge continues to be above the fray--to stand above it all. I wonder if you've run across those who have an opportunity to potentially in fact stand out based on current technology?

Why go to the trouble of buying hardware when you could just subscribe to a VPN?

Do VPNs work differently in Canada? Or do ISPs block VPNs? Seems like nearly the same function can be done by a VPN, but I suppose the law might specify something I'm missing.
Or is it just ther ISP terms of service that prevent users from using different IP addresses?

@mhhf1ve in my area - ISP terms of service that prevent users from using different IP addresses... as per user agrement from service provider... but I think it more like a city by law... as before in 1995 to 1999 satelite dish was not allowed only cable tv...

That is kind of strange--it does not bode for the sense of flexibility necessary. What is being done about it @bayte? Are there any companies/startups on the cutting edge of transformation?

@mpouraryan thank you, I do :) in my point as long as we follow the law whatever we agre with not... we live in normal society, but the second Co. try to bend the law or make it they own, we become lawless society and pay the price... other example would be Nortel - http://business.financialpost.com/news/fp-street/nortel-acquittals-prompted-rcmp-to-question-their-ability-to-combat-white-collar-crime

Nortel lost its' way and forgot its' roots--as I see it. The reason the current leading players (Alphabet/Google; Amazon et. al) continue to stay dominant because they have adopted Intel Co-Founder Andy Groove's Admonition to be "Paranoid"--a lesson that Intel itself and other chip makers have forgotten...
Enjoy the evening--and wishing you all in "TT Country" a Joyous Wednesday.

@dcawrey in Canada I have simular problem with some sporting e vents and show... - it just get blocked...
Re: ESPN?
Indeed, the blocking of sporting events just leads fans to get more riled up and excited because they can't see what's going on.
Reminds me of Douglas Adams's description of Brockian Ultra-Cricket.

@jbtombes I think it would be lower price, unless they gonna add extras... but we will see...
But how many use the services they already have?
Meanwhile, how many households have sports packages as part of their broadband cable packages that they don't even watch?
And how many even know it??? Sometimes you have to carefully examine your bill -- or wantonly flip channels -- to discover, "Oh, I get that channel."
I'm curious how many of these OTT services are redundant.

Someday...
I expect fans to use video game simulators to re-enact a live sporting event.. and listen to "radio" audio commentary of the game simultaneously. A Twitch-like channel that's just a few seconds delayed from the live broadcast so that skilled video game players can re-create the actual game... seems possible.
