Re: EU Wants Amazon, Netflix to Include European Content
There's likely challenges with the licensing agreements with the content owners.

As there's more of a shift to streaming, hopefully agreements will ease up on some of the geographic restrictions moving forward.

Yes! I'm so looking forward to new media! I think it's a great idea to incorporate European shows and movies. I can always use another Netflix distraction!

Just a favorite move, historically
The "local content" rules have been happening ever since the 1950s, beginning with movies and radio music/drama and continuing into television and everything else. They have generally kept smaller, artsier producers in business, to the considerable satisfaction of well-off Europeans who went to the expensive schools and acquired "sophisticated" tastes there, and as long as some channels remained for things that working and middle class people actually wanted to watch, it hasn't resulted in too much resentment (nothing like the attacks on PBS in the US).

The one thing it dependably supplies is a career path for bureaucrats who went to the elite training schools and insisted on studying cultural stuff.

It's a drop of costs in the enormous bucket of profits for the international streaming services.

Re: EU Wants Amazon, Netflix to Include European Content
Ooh La La, I say. This should have happened a long time ago. Let's give viewers more selection, not to mention it's great for the bottom lines of Amazon and Netflix. European TV has dozens of interesting movies and TV programs I think viewers in this country will take to like a chocolate croissant and a cafe latte.

EU Wants Amazon, Netflix to Include European Content
That is great. European countries should be able to access content. That increases the bottom line for Amazon and Netflix. It seems like a no brainer. They should have implemented that sooner.

Re: European want content
Yeah I agree. I feel like if they want them to include Eurpoean shows/movies why not? It'll only bring in more costumes in the long run.

Not too Surprised.....
Europe has been at the forefront of trying to "reign in" the giants.    How successful they become in the end is not yet clear to me though.
