Perfection cannot be the enemy of timely delivery
Sounds like a very worthy, and much needed, cause. The old way of developing standards takes too long for service providers that are trying to embrace a devops model, which has led to proprietary implementations.

Standard Bodies Collaborate
They must collaborate if they weren't successful like being on their on like advocates like SDN, NFV etc. This will probaly be for the best for business.

Re: Perfection cannot be the enemy of timely delivery
I'm hopeful for future with standards. They are addressing potential issues with standardization now and it's wonderful! The old model really must be reworked if we're going to continue connecting billions of devices.

Are there any general lessons for (or from) other standards bodies?
There are so many competing standards in various fields that the situation makes me wonder if any economists have studied how to make standards bodies more efficient?

Here here! The beauty in standards is that there are so many to choose from.

Haha! I suppose that's one way of looking at the situation. There's always a half-full glass somewhere...

Standards Bodies and Open Source
There is no need to reinvent the wheel or work in silos. There are several standards bodies that can help with devloping open source standards such as ANSI, IEEE, NIST, MIL. Saying that there are so many to choose from seems silly. Choose one or two and move forward. That is why collaboration is critical in the Open Source area.
Companies must stop trying to work alone and learn that collaboration says time and money and is a win-win.

I agree!
I think that the future looks bright and positive for now...the old model, like you said, really does have to be reworked.
