Re: Security will become ever more important...
Yes so true! I also think that businesses are sometimes too caught up in a new project or advancement to worry about security. Which is also a big concern of mine.

@dir5288, I believe your fears are well founded.  As we move forward, I do not think businesses truly understand the impact and are a bit naive in their view of technology being something they are in control of.  Now that everything is networked they do not realize the magnitude of the problem.

Yes I totally agree. A strong strategy should help immensely when dealing with security breaches.

So true! And if businesses aren't prepared for this I'm scared of what can happen in the future. Especially when it comes to protecting the customers privacy.

@Michelle, astute points!  Sorry, I rapidly fired off reply and combined my two thoughts.  You are correct on alerts.  I was meaning layered approach for a variety of applications to prevent "access" and then a feasible alert system so that the business can identify the type of threat and determine appropriate response - from notation all the way up to crisis.

By the way, I am with you on the predictive analytics - I probably intuitively was tracking with the access to predictive analytics since I am actively enegaged in predictive analytics and cognitive security with IBM in some projects.

@dir5288, strategy well executed will provide a safer buffer than the tactical approach of trying to "prevent" something they cannot control.

Attackers are constantly evolving alongside victim software. The future looks bleak when you consider this :(

A layered approach plus alerts sounds good until you consider the number of potential alerts. I worry about alert fatigue in cyber security. I suppose this is why predictive analytics are being deployed more often these days.

I couldn't agree more! That's the problem I feel like businesses just think they can stop hacks completely...and they can't! It's going to happen even with all the precautions. As long as they prepare to take care of the hacks, that's the important thing.

Re: Security will become ever more important...
@Michelle, thanks!  It is a battle they can't win by trying to fix what has already happened, because the attackers will be finding new ways.  So better managing what they already control "access" by building layers of security, and "alerts" to better respond when they are attacked, would provide a greater level of security than trying to control the hackers.
