Perfect Together
Sounds like an ideal partnership. Anytime-anywhere access is key, and by using the Verizon platform, this will help Hearst get its news content out to more mobile users.

Re: Perfect Together
I wonder: does your phone automatically transmit your location to bring you the local station for it, or would you select whichever station you want, regardless of location?

Re: Perfect Together
I wonder how easily these media distribution platforms will be to replicate. Hulu and Netflix seem to be able to build out robust video distribution platforms, and Amazon AWS seems to be able to handle an impressive amount of video traffic. So it seems like it shouldn't be long before the tech advances to the point where almost any media organization could spin up a "media platform" on a cloud and expand the market for OTT video apps significantly.

Re: Perfect Together
@Ariella That would make sense... like Google News.

Hopefully if it does, that's at least a choice/option in preferences and not the default. I *think* iOS is set up so that apps need to request user permission before enabling location services.

Re: Perfect Together
@mhhf1ve Might be a good business idea to come up with a basic "plug and play" type app that could be sold to companies to have customized for them as a service. Seems like once the technology is there, it's easy to leverage for different content sources.

@faryl that would be resfreshingly different! It seems that whenever they could, the services seek to make location your default setting.

Re: Perfect Together
I'm not a fan of having any more information about myself than necessary tracked. :) It drives me nuts when I go to a website to watch a cat video or find a recipe and get a pop-up that the site wants me to share my location information!

Re: Perfect Together
Although your concerns about privacy are absolutely warranted, what about security--we have to be secure first--and it is not happening.

Re: Perfect Together
I couldn't agree more. To a large extent, security & privacy go hand-in-hand. With the exception of law/gov't related use/abuse of information, I think the biggest danger to privacy is the result of poor security measures.
