Re: DoCoMo Partnership Approach
@freehe - I agree, I think we all benefit, especially from the goal of creating a partner ecosystem. This will undoubtedly be the key to their success, and to everyone's benefit.

DoCoMo Partnership Approach
DoCoMo is a great example of how companies can partner and create a win-win situation for both companies and for consumers. DoCoMo is truly innovative and can be used as a model for other companies to follow.

Kudos to DoCoMo's senior leadership. Their four point plan is fantastic: invest in the creation of new technologies and services, create a partner ecosystem, promote and market the value of the platform and invest in enabling infrastructure, such as network upgrades.

Re: Interesting
This is a great example for how providers need to update their business models.

Sure, the business of voice and data was great for a long time. But these days it is time to look towards new services. This includes giving businesses what they need as they grow and change in the face of technology.

Re: Interesting
Yes, I wasn't too excited by this function initially. But I think it is quite useful for the reasons mentioned in this section - while driving, cooking or various other tasks it can be awkward to answer a phone. And of course, in winters with gloves on, its a real pain. Although now you can get gloves that allow you to use a touchscreen phone without taking them off - they have little spots on inside of the fingers made of conductive material.

Wise Move
Sounds like a solid business plan to partner with Suguden. It sounds like they are enacting most of their plans to remain viable when demand is changing. I could see how moving the phone might be useful to respond to an incoming call at times when you can't answer the phone.  Though I could definitely see some people believing the feature to be slightly awkward looking as well, depending on the situation.

Re: Interesting
Or cold weather, when people have gloves on! (Though, personally, I can never seem to get the hang of shaking my iPhone to get the option to "undo" something; I feel like I must look like I'm trying to get a bee away from my phone!)

Strategy
Docomos strategy is truly commendible. What makes more sense is its effort to partner with both technolgy and domain / vertical companies to get most value out. This could be a three way winner.

Interesting
"Suguden," allows for interaction with a smartphone without tapping the screen. Lifting, flipping or shaking the phone performs some of the basic functions, such as answering the phone, rejecting a call and sending a busy text and calling..

Wow..this is something really interesting. May come handy in situations like driving or meetings. These simple movements may really address situations adequately.
