Happy November @bayte :)   One thing I hope you embrace is that transformation is all about hope--despite all the pitfalls it may have we all the pleasure to deliberate here.

Re: IoT Platform Strategy
It is interesting how you note change @bayte as I am due to actually have a presentation prepared on the subject of "Leading Change" and Have to think through how to position it the right way.

Truly interesting times as we bid farewell to Oct 2016

Yes, very true. Hopefully they can stay on top of things a little bit better than they've been doing.

I appreciate your positive and upbeat sentiment.   The challenge is to make sure we learn from such oversights--and it appears that the learning curve seems to be as steep as ever.

Re: IoT Platform Strategy
As we were all witness to the debacle a few weeks ago, what I only  hope is that this has awaken the majors in understanding the profound challenges before them--and whether they will adjust their strategies.    Only Time will tell.

Re: IoT Platform Strategy
You make very good points!

I agree, I think that companies who have had problems with decurity are less likely to try IoT just because of the fear of the unknown. It's also important to take risks though..I guess it's the balance of risk and reward.

IoT Platform Strategy
When planning any type of major initiative you need experts, standards, a strategic plan, advertising, data, implementors, designers, technology, resources and money. Companies are afraid to implement IoT because they lack one or more of these factors. Companies are afraid of the unknown and IoT is an unknown to many companies.

Since there are no standards for IoT many companies are afraid to adopt it.

Companies that have experience security or data breaches in the past are most reluctant to implement IoT.

Implementing IoT is a collaborative effort from all departments in a company and senior management. "Hardware people see sensors and other physical elements; networking people see the need to move data around seamlessly; and classical computer science people see issues such as cloud creation, machine learning and security."

Departments must work together collaboratively to implement a successful IoT initiative versus working in silos like most companies have been in the past. Any employee in the company should be able to briefly discuss all major initiatives that occur in a company. Unfortunately most employees don't find out the same time as customers do.
