@clrmoney, interesting survey.

I believe that video will be a leading technology moving forward - and I believe it will drive the flexibilities you mention.

I also find interesting the identification of OTT, I believe that will be a driver as well.

Enhancing Advertising Capabilities
I'm surprised this hasn't been a bigger priority. There seems to be plenty of ad opportunities wasted on streaming services - the same ad played repeatedly, often with no real ties to demographics related to the content or the specific viewer. The fact that so much content is accessed via individual logon/accounts/profiles, yet sponsorship doesn't be at all tailored to even the watcher's location, strikes me as a loss of potential ad revenue as well as not maximizing the success of the ad campaigns.

Re: VTAB 4 Areas
Both OTT and 4K have the ability to impact the bottom line pretty quickly. How about an OTT 4K service? I think that would be really useful.

Quality and ability to obtain content at any time are things that customers will pay for when it comes to video, that's for sure.

Re: Enhancing Advertising Capabilities
@faryl, your point is a good one and an example of "dumb" marketing.  I fully agree with you - the opportunity to provide relevant information to interested markets, based on customized and personalized interests, would be a much stronger market and appeal to customers.  The advertisers that catch on to that should have a winning proposition.

Re: Enhancing Advertising Capabilities
@faryl - its been a goal for payTV providers for a long time and the OTT space is actually moving a lot faster. But as you say, getting the nuts and bolts to function regularly is quite complex.

Re: VTAB 4 Areas
@dcawrey - good point. I think Netflix is offering some of their content in 4K. The problem is getting content that's been natively produced in 4K (its a new technology, so not a lot of library content) and then handling bandwidth. 4K takes a lot of space, which then means that you might need to toggle down to a lower profile if the network is congested - which defeats the purpose.

Re: Enhancing Advertising Capabilities
I think Hulu had a great opportunity for a "freemium" subscription that required users to fill out demographic info useful to sponsors in order to access content. Similar to the info cards people used to have to fill out to get free magazine subscriptions. Companies used that info to tailor mailing lists for a maximum success rate.

Re: Enhancing Advertising Capabilities
It bugs me because not only do I get stuck watching ads for stuff I would not buy, I don't ever see ads for new products that I *would* buy if I'd known about them.

Re: Enhancing Advertising Capabilities
@faryl, those are good examples of smart advertising.  Exactly, as they compile your interests and then connect you with those, it makes a much better connection and makes the advertising of value to you.  Then it pays on both ends.
