One of the Originals
It seems like yahoo's been hanging in there, determined not to go the way of geocities & netscape, but even though they're a pioneer, everything they do is always clunkier than some new company's version.
I think my first email address was a yahoo one - back then passwords only had to be 3 or 4 letters (mine was "frog"). Ancient times! :)

Re: One of the Originals
Yahoo's services seem to be in limbo right now.. I have a friend who found a critical security flaw in Yahoo's email, and no one seems to be jumping to fix it. I wonder if Yahoo and AOL emails will be combined somehow.. and how that will affect millions of users.

I'm not surprised by the security flaw.
Friends got spam from my account even after I changed my password - I finally deleted all of my contacts to try to prevent that from happening again in the future.

Re: One of the Originals
Well, email spam isn't necessarily a security flaw -- it's an inherent flaw in the design of email where emails can be spoofed. Unless someone is actually somehow logged into your email account and sending spam, and then that's a bigger problem that just removing contacts wouldn't solve....
In any case, I think I'm going to stop using Yahoo email soon....

Re: One of the Originals
How could they spam my contacts just by spoofing? Wouldn't there need to be a security breach?
(Not being argumentative or questioning your info, just curious) :)

Oh. Well, I didn't mean that a back actor could spam *your contacts* specifically, but that a spammer could use your email address to then spam any number of contacts (who may or may not be your contacts). It may or may not be difficult to obtain who your contacts are outside of whatever email service you use.

That is actually so disturbing. Also terrifying that someone could do this just from an email..

Re: One of the Originals
Emails in 2016 seem to have been at the root of a lot of bad things happening... And the "hacks" of emails haven't even been that sophisticated. Maybe encrypted messaging apps really are the way to go....?

It's not only scary, but frustrating. And yeah I've noticed how much of an issue email hacking has been in 2016! All we can hope for is security to be tighter for this new year..

That is terrible and kind of scary! It's crazy how easy it is today for people to hack into people's phones and other devices..

Is this a Blackberry Moment?
Will Yahoo stick around or is Verizon going to keep certain elements and ditch the rest?

Re: Is this a Blackberry Moment?
@afwriter I'd bet the latter, though it may take a bit of time before it implments the changes.

Re: Is this a Blackberry Moment?
I predict Verzion will kill off Yahoo services that don't play well with AOL and/or lose money without gaining eyeballs... because it's all about advertising now.

Verizon and Yahoo
Yahoo is a big company that sores information for email services etc. and verixon got them is a shock but verizon offers many things as well like phone services and phones so I think this is a home run for them.
Seen & Heard: Verizon Nabs Yahoo for $4.83B
I was really shocked when I read this article because I would never if thought that Verizon would do this yahoo especially for $4.83B. These are my reasons 1.) Verizon is very well successful and recently read that Verizon enjoys yahoo business. 2.) Yahoo only has a $1B monthly users. Which is well complete. 3.) Yahoo, AOL, and Verizon is joining together and will be the largest out there. I enjoyed this article very described and informative.
