a content platform for every show
We'll keep getting original content, but from multiple providers. This sounds a lot like the app economy, but for video consumption. I don't know how well this might work longterm. I really believed consumers weren't happy with the fragmented model of content distribution outside of cable. Do we want more content silos?

Re: a content platform for every show
The content siloes are only marginally annoying now, and I wonder when aggregating technology (ahem, PopcornTime, BitTorrent) is going to force these content owners to share their shows across platforms. HBO already lets Netflix and other services run their older shows, so I'm thinking Netflix and Amazon may follow that model someday, too.

Apple is seriously losing out on streaming video now.. AppleTV is nice, but is it nice enough without being a game console?

Choosing Content
They all have the money and the reputation, but at the end of the day the winner is going to be whoever delivers the widest aray of good content.

BTW, this is the first time that I have really thought about the fact that HBO is the OG of original content.

Re: a content platform for every show
@Michelle - Personally, I don't think so. The mantra when VoD was launched was that "consumers want what they want , when they want it. Then came multiscreen, and it became "what they want, when they want, wherever they want." But the problem with OTT fragmentation is the first part - what they want. If that is spread across multiple services and you need to subscribe to a bunch of them to get it, that's going to be a problem. Cost is one part of it, but just having multiple subscriptions can be a pain in itself.

Re: a content platform for every show
@mhhf1ve - Tim Cook just threw out some teasing comments about plans for AppleTV. Not much actual info., but suggests they know they are a bit lost there.

In response to questions from analysts, the Apple chief executive described the introduction of Apple tvOS and subsequent releases, including one scheduled for the autumn, as "sort of building the foundation of what we believe can be a broader business over time." He added: "I don't want to be more precise than that but you shouldn't look at what's there today and think that we've done what we want to do."

@mhhf1ve It's interesting you bring up Apple TV. I don't even think of Apple when I think of streaming content. Do they have a hefty streaming library or is it mostly downloadable content?
