comcast slim tvc
Even though slim tvs are better with advanced technology I really not for them because I researched and they have cameras installed in the flats screen new tvs so just knowing that somneone is out there watching you and you don't even know it. But if the person want to buy it then thats on them.

@clrmoney Straight out of 1984: the telescreens have arrived! I see people are concerned about this for laptops, and some businesses sell special stickers to cover the built-in camera.

slim packages
Adi - This is subscription based online video. But if these packages replicate the original linear feed with commercial breaks, would you call them ad supported, too?

(And what's with the posts below thinking this interview was about flat-screen TVs?!?)

Re: slim packages
That is a great point, we have talked a lot recently about business models.  Slim TV packages seem to be a hybrid of sorts like Hulu where you are paying a fee for the service, but still seeing ads in order to reduce the upfront fee to the consumer.

Re: slim packages
It can get a bit murky, and some would argue its all semantics...

For me, its about who gets the revenue. So if there's a slim TV subscription service that includes ads that are sold by the content owner, not the SP, then its a subscription service. Just as with a regular pay-TV service, where ads are included but sold (largely) by the broadcasters and cable networks. In the US, this is not entirely true, as operators get "avails", but I would still say pay-TV is a subscription business even here because that's the bulk of the revenue by far.

So a slim TV package that is set up the same way will also count as a subscription service for me.

But if the ads are mostly sold by the distributor/service provider AND there's a subscription fee, then its a hybrid.

Or as Hulu was - they're getting out of the ad business.
