Enjoy your evening, Bjorn.
The show will be archived and available soon.
Thanks for having me on - was fun.
Regards, Bjorn
Thanks for answering Bjorn!
Thank you, Bjorn and Mike.
Looks like we're about out of time. Thanks for all of the great questions and for Bjorn joining us today.
Opening up to 3rd parties?
I think most Telcos would love to have a platform that attracts 3rd party developers. I also believe that to succeed with 5G service development and hopefully 'take back' some of the service definition volume thats gone to the OTTs - we will have to. Telenor is doing that - we have developed what we call a Global back-end where service deverlopers can integrate and get access to all our csutomers.
Bjørn
Great answer on the net neutrality question. The only issue is how to monitor and regulate fair investment and performance requirements.
Thanks for answering Bjorn!
Developing or buying?
- i think both. We are keen to not build stuff that has a standard behind it and where there is competition. Where these are not in place or we see a unique opportunity - do it in house.
Bjorn
Thank you, Mike and Bjorn
Will solving net neutrality concerns as we move toward 5G and network slicing require compromises elsewhere in terms of joint ownership of both network distribution services and content assets?
- I dont necessarily think so. The big issue is making sure that the basic internet service gets enough resources. This could be fixed by for instance imposing a performance requirement or saying that 'if you invest a million in non-neutral capacity, you have to invest x in the neutral part'
Bjorn
Thanks Mike and Bjorn!
Q: Between developing technology in-house and acquiring it from the market- what is your preferred route and why?
To the point mentioned in your last poll, how committed does Bjorn feel senior management across operators (not Telenor specifically) are to opening up networks and developing third party partners? Where does it rank as a priority in his opinion, across top management at T1 operators?
Thanks @Bjorn for answering my question!
hardest part about transiting to DevOps - breaking down silos. getting managers to 'give up contrl' Everybody understands the need, but can be hard in practise.
Bjorn
Will solving net neutrality concerns as we move toward 5G and network slicing require compromises elsewhere in terms of joint ownership of both network distribution services and content assets?
Hi all, this is Bjorn.
Let me answer the question on staying ahead of security concerns on IoT. This is obviously a key concern - We are investing in cyber security in our operations with Norway in the lead. Telenor is part of the 'national infrastructure' and has built capabilities to handle that respinsibility. When IoT becomes a big part of the operation - it has to /will be integrated.
Sadly, I must be going. But thanks for a great conversation!
how about this one Bjorn?
What's the hardest part about transitioning to a DevOps approach?
Thanks Mike and Bjorn! Great show.
Thanks. Good questions. I'll give Bjorn a minute to scroll through them a bit. Also wanted to point you towards other Telenor research by Adi on TT:

Thanks @Mike and @Bjorn!!
D. Telco staff training and cultural evolution to support ecosystem - and especially training Telco top management!
How does Telenor stay ahead of security concerns in regard to IoT (especially w/industrial IoT)?
Oooh- very interesting point about not being able to manage analytics in one unified system when service markets span multiple countries.
@Msilbey, I think it would be the mindset change for traditional telcos
Thanks for the links, Mike
@kelsey agreed, that is good news to hear. People are a focus and it will pay off in the future
What's the hardest part about transitioning to a DevOps approach?
Thanks for asking my question! Good to hear that Telenor makes it a priority to provide re-training for everyone - including HR, marketing, etc.
It's good to hear open source will be included
A. Telco top management support ecosystem development - if the big guys push, it'll happen.
I'd say all of the above....tough to choose
@Michelle I agree, training and cultural shifts are crucial!
Lower hardware costs are nice, but it's great you're not focusing on that
Tough poll, many good options there...probaby A or D
Poll answer: D -- I think all the other parts can come together, but people will need training and the culture will need to evolve to make everything else work
we should all start responding "what do you mean?" when we hear orchestration? get people to be more specific with their language.
D. Telco staff training and cultural evolution to support ecosystem
Agreed - cost shouldn't be the #1 goal
Poll: What is the most important element of a successful digital ecosystem for a telco?
A. Telco top management support ecosystem development
B. Open API development by technical/operations teams
C. Dedicated digital partnership program with business goals
Telco staff training and cultural evolution to support ecosystem
good question @Kelsey I was wondering the same thing
What kinds of training programs does Telenor provide for employees to help with the transition to virtualization?
a cooperative approach sounds promising
Q for Bjorn: How do DevOps and Agile play into your digital journey?
@Mike ha! Seems like it's heading that way...
That's impressive - sheep tracking. Great question Mike :)
Woah, tracking sheep! Very cool
Automation of manual tasks
That's a really interesting perspective. "AI will be like electricity"
I really like a nice mocha. I'm listening from Texas today
What will be the biggest immediate impact for AI?
A. Automation of manual tasks
B. Better communications with customers
C. Alerts and monitoring
D. Predications on activity based on machines
Chocolate coconut water, North Carolina
Strawberry daiquiri, Oslo, Norway
English Harbour :) Niagara Falls, Canada

Remember, there's no slides for this it's just a discussion, so be sure to post your questions, comments and thoughts on the message boards and we will join you on the chat after the audio stream.
Interesting comment about the impact of networks on AI development in your article Mike. Be great to have Bjorn expand on it on the show today.
looking forward to the show today!
Looking forward to chatting with you all in an hour,
Bjorn
Looking forward to hearing from Bjorn!
Looking forward to the live show
agree - very timely and relevant
This is a really timely topic - looking forward to the live radio show!
Looking forward to it. Would be interesting to see what the timeline for rolling it out is, and what are the key dependencies.
Wow, I thought I missed the show but now see that I've arrived a week early. See you all again next week!
Looking forward to chatting next Thursday.
Regards,
Bjorn
Exciting topic! Looking forward to learning more!
Checking in and looking forward to next week's chat!
It will be interesting to learn more about 5G's role. I wonder if 5G will really be the jewel it is proported to be, or if it will just be another standard that isn't all that wonderful.
Greetings & salutations all!
Greetings & salutations all!
Hope to attend should be interesting
Looking foward to the show
