Re: Good to see
Tranparency is good, even better when it is put into action. Would be good to see some examples of this being effective once it is put into place. I think the framework is there for that now at DT, but the execution is the hard part.

Re: Good to see
I'm sure there are lots of good reasons behind it, but would creating a "whistleblower" mindset work at large US corporations? I think that might be a challenge for both the corporations here and the employees.

Re: Good to see
afwriter, dmhagan,

I am more inclined to think it has to do with the longstanding German regulatory climate, in which industries that don't have large, high-level scandals, or clean them up quickly, are generally left alone, whereas industries that do produce public embarrassment and a perception that wrongdoers are getting away with it are stomped on with both feet, in cleats. German business people and regulators alike put a very high value on the appearance of justice being done (whereas in the US it has more to do with the perception of an "acceptable deal" agreed to by both parties).

For a variety of reasons, the Germans want the public to think the system is fair -- by which they mean incorruptible and trustworthy for both the businesses and the regulatory agencies. The Americans tend to want the public to feel that it is fair too -- but they mean everyone can buy as many bureaucrats as she can afford, and a little larceny and looking the other way is attributed to "human nature."

Re: Good to see
@afwriter, it is important and growing in importance every day.

What is impressive about what DT appears to be doing is not just trying to create the "image" of an ethical company, but truly building the culture that will result in an ethical company and sustain the way it conducts business.

Good to see
This is important in any business, but I feel as though enforcing a strong sense of ethics is especially important in the rapidly growing telcom industry from customer support all the way to the CEO.
