Re: OTT Service Viu
Good points.

I also think American networks aren't as known globally. I think that if Viu would expand to other devices then they would stay at the top for sure.

OTT Service Viu
American content is not as popular globally. Other countries enjoy original programming in their own language. Local markets feel the same way.

Viu is leading the OTT industry overseas. Good strategic planning, marketing, leadership and innovation will help them to remain a leader.

Viu should also make OTT available on other devices and providers such as Samsung, HTG and LG.

Original content arms race
I think we're seeing a clear intent to produce rather than buy video content, to ensure quality, and gobal distribution, stacking and multiscreen rights. But the scale of some of the investments being discussed is quite staggering.

Re: VIU Service
The proliferation of video content, localised or international, poses a problem not just for producers but also for consumers.

As Adi says, numbers continue to rise - see:

http://variety.com/2015/film/news/hollywood-making-too-many-movies-1201526094/

but rather like the bewildering 150+ TV channels you're faced with, the quality of the majority is questionable at best.

How to get to the 'good quality' dramas or programmes which are not driven totally by current preference insights but allow for ease of exploration without being prescriptive will be an interesting challenge. Perhaps this will be in part 2...

Viu Part Deux
There is a second part to this interview that I will post in the next day or two, where Janice discusses some of the challenges with launching services in emerging markets, and how Viu overcame them.

Re: VIU Service
@dcawrey -- we are definitely seeing more of a shift away from Hollywood, though it continues to be the most important content producer worldwide. Even in the past though, that was largely because it was the closest thing to "global" hit content. Each locality may have valued its local content more, but that didn't travel, even short distances. Now that production costs are lower, and production quality is improving even in emerging markets, there's a bit more cross pollination. And of course, there's Netflix now threatening to create large volumes of local content around the world. But even otherwise, the global success of shows like The Killing, The Bridge, Trapped and Deutschland 83 from countries like Denmark, Iceland and Germany has proven that you don't need to be made in Hollywood or even in English to appeal to viewers. And as Janice Lee points out, the appeal of Korean dramas across coutries and cultures has surprised a lot of people.

Re: VIU Service
While many countries do enjoy viewing American television, they also want their own content.

This is something Netflix is trying to do as well – catering to local markets. It's not easy to do, but I think OTT services have an upper hand because they can get data on viewership.

VIU Service
This will be great for Vie if they offer more mobile video service to the consumers and any other available services they have to offer.
