I mentioned a number of documents in my interview. The original joint-carrier white paper introducing NFV can be obtained here: http://portal.etsi.org/NFV/NFV_White_Paper.pdf
I mentioned the ETSI NFV Security Problem Statement. The first document released by the Security Working Group (formerly known as the Security Expert Group). Here is the link:

Thanks for listening - Don Clarke.
thank you, good day to all :)
Thanks again for the opportunity guys!
Presentations are even more fun when they're given by people with accents, though, I know that to them we have American accents.
I'll be at SDN & OpenFlow World Congress in The Hague and Broadband World Forum in London the following week if anyone wants to catch-up with me there.
Absolutely! Thanks, Mike, good day to all as well!
Which means we need to invite Don back for another show! Have a great day, everyone.
Thanks for people's interest, I am happy to have follow-ups on any topic.
I think US operators will be very competitive, I see a lot of innovation going on.
Thanks Don. Up to you if you have time for one more question or not. Thanks everyone for joining today. I'll post additional resources here as I get them.
What role do you see devices, along with the technology advancements and services, playing in the way we consume content?
I think we will see an evolution. Some operators are more aggressive than others depending on their local circumstances and whether their leadership (i.e. CEO) wants to take a vision driven approach or a finance driven approach.
Don, you mentioned the coming out of 5G at the 2020 Olympics. Where do you see US companies in the competitive landscape in development of 5G?
See Kyrio info on cablelabs.com
@clarede - that does appear to work!
SO OpenStack is a focus for us at CableLabs. However other components are equally important, notably MANO.
I'd like to hear more about Kyrio.. and how it relates to Cablelabs.
Here's a good one:
Don, over the next 5 years, do you see the changes are truly transforming to new networks/systems, or evolving from where we are?
OpenStack is an important focus within the cable industry. It is already used to support today's services so its not a stretch for it to evolve to support new services based on NFV-SDN.
@clarkede, that makes sense - which is why the networked systems work.
Excellent, thanks, Mike. Do you envision more mergers with the leaders?
And network investments are huge as you need large footprint of connectivity for the content proposition to be viable.
And to somewhat answer the question I just posted, I know Comcast has been very active with OpenStack, and Cox also.
Don, how do you see the business models changing with these advancements?
Thanks for the feedback. On networks drivers versus content drivers. In my experience you always have a chicken and egg. The content depends on the network and the network investment depends on the content drivers.
Very insightful. Thanks for your time!
Great crystal ball and vision mhhf1ve~
Thanks for attempting to address my curiosity about where your crystal ball see IoT going, tho...
I'll give Don a chance to glance through the qustions, but here's one to start:
What are the leading companies that are transforming the cable industry?
Don, over the next 5 years, do you see the changes are truly transforming to new networks/systems, or evolving from where we are?
well, there are so many moving parts still for IoT, it's hard to say what will really happen in even the near future for IoT (despite all the buzz).
Thanks good presentation!
Thank you, Don - great info!
Thanks, Don! It's a pleasure listening.
LIke so many other answers, it really is a "that depends."
@mhhf1ve there's your question now being addressed.
Don, who will be the drivers in the future, the networks, the content, etc.?
Who are the emerging companies or start-ups in the cable industry that are the ones to watch?
Don, that link would be great - thank you.
What are the emerging technologies in the cable industry?
how does Don see IoT evolving with virtualization..?
@Mike, or will the focus on what we secure change?
Who are the leading platforms for the new systems?
@mhhf1ve a paradox there!
@ariella -- a non-conformist who just picked the poll option to follow the herd....
@Ariella, good point - a needed change in thinking!
@Mike Robuck, thanks for the link to Don's blog.
@mhhf1ve, Thanks for the link.
@Dhagar @freehe It's something that we're more used to from the competitions people see in their school and even work experience.
check out: http://www.kyrio.com
@mhhf1ve hurray, we have a noncomformist!
For us I would say A. Very hard to monitize in a small market.
There is too much competition and not enough collaboration.
I'm so tempted to go with another letter just to not appear to be following the herd here.
Do you envision more cable companies providing software, tools and resources to help educate students in K-12 and college?
Poll Time! What is the best way for CSPs to roll out NFV in their networks this year?
A. Don't deploy anything; standards bodies need to get on the same page
B. Use their own teams to mix NFV solutions from best-of-breed vendors
C. Use a system integrator to blend NFV solutions from multiple vendors
D. Go with a certified, integrated NFV product from 1 vendor
E. Buy the whole NFV ball of wax from 1 vendor
F. Wait for more large operators to deploy NFV to reduce pain points
What are the leading companies that are transforming the cable industry?
The message board is moving again. Audio quality can be impacted by your broadband connection -- little cut outs should only last a few seconds.
Where do you see the industry in the next five years?
Does Don have a view on the New IP agency? http://www.newipagency.com/document.asp?doc_id=722035
So, then, I'm hearing a "hybrid" approach....that's key.....
@mhhf1ve and so you could choose the ones you like, right?
@rleer4 I still have audio
(The good thing about standards is.. there are so many to choose from.) :P
How does the cable perspective differ from a telco or MSO perspective? or is it all the same now?
I think "collaboration" is one of the current words thrown around a lot today, right up there with "agility."
If you've got questions, now is the time to send them through. We'll take a few questions at the end of the interview before we go into the live chat.
@Mike thanks for the link.
should be working on chrome
Heh. NFV isn't too far off from NSFW.. :P
Seems to be working for me.
I'm on Chrome but had no problems
Great tip for Google Chrome users!
Thanks for the update @Liz. Chat is working/not working today.
i know why now, thank you!
Hi folks. Some folks are reporting problems with the chat board and we are working on it now. In the meanwhile, listen and enjoy the show and I'll update on progress.
If you're on Chrome refresh after posting
@theseaand - is the player showing up? Are you listening at work or at home?
@theseand you sometimes have to refresh the browser. Also some browsers work better than others
i could not hear anything, why?

Nice to be here with you all
How is everyone doing this week? Enjoying the 4-day work week (if you got one)?
Looking forward to today's show!
Good morning/afternoon everyone! Remember to turn up your volume on the computers. At the top of the hour an audio player will pop up on your screen. If you don't see it, try to press F5 to refresh your screen. Remember, there's no slides for this it's just a discussion, so be sure to post your questions, comments and thoughts on the message boards and we will join you on the chat after the audio stream.
Looking forward to the event starting soon. Cheers - your interviewee!
I'm always curious about the cable industry and its plans for the future. This should be a great session. I'm looking forward to learning more about the NFV interoperability lab.
Good morning all! The countdown has begun.
Good morning y'all. The sun is awake today. Clouds dun run off.
Checking in ahead of the webinar!
Greetings and salutations all!
Looking forward to this show
