Re: CL Virtualization
It is great that Century Link partnered with Ericsson for OSS and BSS. Ericssson has made a great comeback as a company. Excited to see the new products.

It is also great that CenturyLink has transitioned into a IT company.

This is great for developers that are offered SDKs for main platforms such as Java, .NET, Ruby and PHP.

Re: Standards arrive too late..
Adi, Mike,

Also as always, both the forge-ahead-proprietary and the get-it-right standardizers will complain about each other a lot, while gradually absorbing a good parts version of each other.  The world generally gets imperfectly standardized, with all kinds of odd vestigial things left over, so that mostly people can do what they want to and are used to, but things mostly work together.

Of course that's what happens in areas that are economically healthy and vibrant. Dead-end sectors tend to be beautifully standardized and areas of premature overinvestment tend to be a patchwork of proprietary fiefs. So I'd say this mostly indicates that the move to the cloud is healthy, strong, and continuing, and CenturyLink has put down a pretty good bet square in the middle of it.

Re: Standards arrive too late..
On the one hand, telcos want to innovate at a more rapid rate, which goes against the grain of how traditional standards bodies have always worked. But when they move too fast they end up with proprietary networks that vendors need to create multiple solutions for. Service providers like AT&T, as well as open source communities, are trying to drive the discussions now.

Standards arrive too late..
<it's far too late for standards bodies to influence the next generation of application development and/or the infrastructure on which it's hosted. >

This seems to be a common refrain in the telecoms business. I wonder if it's just how it is - the market moves too fast for people to collaborate in time - or if there's a particular and "fixable" issue here.

CL Virtualization
Century Link did business with Ericsson so they can have Operations Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS) which is a plus for them and for the customer needs for branching out and starting something different and new. Century link also said they want to hit full global data centers etc. by and I think that will be great for them.
