ROKUs 4K Evolution
They have a lot of interesting products that are avilable like the Premier and Ultra and UHD and this is great with the new products and services they provide for the customers.

streaming??
I have to agree with some skepticism that streaming devices for ultra-high bandwidth services is the place to start. Who has a Gbps service? Not too many households (yet!?)...

And when will real broadband come to the mainstream?

Re: streaming??
While you make a great point, I would argue that a piece of tech like this that is cheaper than others may be a great catalyst for a household to get some kind of 4k tech into their home, therefore spurring their interest in collecting more 4K products.

Re: streaming??
Are competitors offering similar? I could see that as being something consumers might "fall for" as something that they'll benefit from, and roku not wanting to lose those customers to the competition.

That's another good point - driving demand by available hardware.

UHD Gaining Popularity
I was in Best Buy yesterday and noticed that they have a large selection of UHD discs.  I didn't even know that those existed and I would defitnitely be wary of upgraging for a few years, especially with what happened with HDDVDs.

Re: ROKUs 4K Evolution
I agree. Roku has a mature OS and channel market. If I needed to replace my existing Roku devices, I would buy an express. I think the Roku Express would be a great gift.

Re: streaming??
Sure, there's a chicken&egg problem with these new video standards, so someone has to start offering the features or else we'd all be stuck with 480p video. We're looking at a future without headphone jacks, so maybe we're moving well beyond HDMI cables, too.... :P
