Re: CL To Buy Level 3
@mhh: It might well have been. A million proposed deals never even see the light of day before one finally has daylight shed upon it.
Re: regulatory approval
@mhh: Now that it's after the election, I'm a bit doubtful of your prognostication -- particularly given that the two Republican FCC Commissioners voted against Wheeler's Net Neutrality rules, and that the Republican stepping into the Oval Office on Jan. 20 has a record of rhetoric both against the deal and against said Net Neutrality rules.

I believe 'reluctance to change' is something that needs to be dealt with all the time, because we ae living in a wolrld where chnage is the only constant.

Re: CL To Buy Level 3
@bayte Yes, unfortunately it is all about the bottom line. Can't wait to see what shakes out with the AT&T-TimeWarner union for consumers though. I dropped CableVision, so maybe their plan will be less expensive for Internet and TV.

I'm actually surprised that Level3 wasn't a target for acquisition earlier.

CL To Buy Level 3
Since its humble beginnings in 1930, it appears CenturyLink has had a history of gobbling up companies with the idea of becoming one of the largest corporations of its kind. It has the right idea in acquiring Level 3, I suppose. It's kind of ironic and sad that with such a behemoth of an entity CenturyLink will become with this acquisition, people will lose their jobs. I guess it's all about pleasing the shareholders in the long run.

Re: regulatory approval
> "So will CL and Level 3 have an easier time of getting regulatory approvals than AT&T and Time Warner?"
I think ATT+Time Warner will ultimately get approved just as Comcast+NBC did -- with some conditions to protect net neutrality or content distribution, perhaps.
The CL+L3 deal could run into the same problems as Comcast+Time Warner Cable... even thought they operated in different geographical regions, their combination would have had a negative effect on competition in the market. I'm thinking the same might apply to CL + L3....
