Re: Hmm. not much overlap?
@dir5288, thanks!  Collaboration is essential to truly establishing an ecosystem as well - which seems to be the winning transformational platform.  It is hard but very rewarding.

Re: Hmm. not much overlap?
I completely agree! I think being able to collaborate and bring products together for the better of the both of them is an awesome thing.

Re: Hmm. not much overlap?
@dcawrey, well that's truly it.  You either can remain in charge of your isolated domain or connect with the opportunities in open source.

I think the internet, and now the cloud, have introduced us to the value of collaboration - I don't think we will return to the old day.s

Re: Hmm. not much overlap?
It makes sense the telcos need to be able to provide some organization to open source in this particular industry.

This is such a big undertaking that there needs to be some cooperation and orchestration in order for it all to work.

Seen & Heard: TM Forum Seeks to Unite Open Source
I thought is article was interesting because it was very well explained and very facts and really detailed about the TM forum. I was shock about the number size groups they had in the meeting. I really enjoyed this article.

Re: Hmm. not much overlap?
@mhhf1ve - sure!  There are regional collaborations among cities and/or in use of infrastructure (ie Austin with Transportation Coalition), and then in the industry space - one is healthcare HIMSS.  In terms of vendors, as we see on Telco Transformation - the players working towards Open Source are the examples and you see new collaborations with Open Source platforms by the major companies - IBM is moving Watson to the cloud and creating Dev Ops capabilities.

So it is clearly not yet the trend - but there are signs that the innovators are leading the pack and moving us this direction.

DHagar, so what groups are using this model? (If you're inclined to tell)

Re: Hmm. not much overlap?
@mhhf1ve - absolutely - if it does not produce new value it will not work.

It is a "new" challenge.  The best model I have heard of is where you have independent platforms that form a ecosystem that with the new unified goals increase the relevance of each entity's own separate digital platform.  Now we have to figure better ways of doing that.

Re: Hmm. not much overlap?
@mhhf1ve The people who write those releases are delivering what companies want. The powers that be at the companies aren't interested in sharing the nuanced reality of what they're doing -- just proclaiming their own greatness. Some of them are so stuck in that box of self-promotion that they fail at content marketing because they only know how to direct marketing that hypes what they're doing rather than providing real information that can be useful and so makes improves their own standing as an authority on the subject that people can turn to.
