Re: Multi-media
Yes me too! I don't understand. I don't think there should be 30 second ad for a 50 second video...

Re: Multi-media
@JohnBarnes I was thinking the same thing about its lack of appeal to me.

I also dislike having to watch 10-30 seconds of an ad before watching a 45 second video.

Ooyala
Considering video is increasingly popular, Ooyala's suggestions are on target for those who want to make more money from it, I agree with everything but the autoplay function. I do not want a video automatically coming up in a quiet office environment, and it's not practical to keep it on mute either.

Yes exactly. By triggering on eto leave the site, an opportunity is missed.

Re: Auto Play
@JohnBarnes:

I exactly know how that feels as I am no fan of such auto played videos. Those videos slow down my processor and occupy resources as wel. If they are not muted, that would even be worse.

Re: Auto Play
@JohnBarnes I feel exactly the same way about auto-play. If I can't get it to stop fast enough, I leave the site.

Re: Auto Play
@elizabethv at least it made for an unusual toast. I sometimes leave my phone behind, though my default is to leave it on. I rarely get calls, but it is put in as an emergency contact number. I just didn't like getting irrelevant texts on it because the schools would put out anything -- even things specific to grades that didn't pertain to my kids -- in braodcast mode to every phone number they had on file.

Naturally they like re-insertion
Ooyalla's specific favorable recommendation for various ways to defeat ad-blockers should of course be reported since it's part of the story, but it's hardly surprising. In other news, cheetahs believe that as many antelope as possible should be lame, Typhoid Mary was in favor of ways to pretend having washed her hands, and a postwar poll of U-boat captains revealed they all favored sinkings of destroyers.

Re: Auto Play
afwriter,

I've just upgraded speed a long way too, but I'm still annoyed by autoplay. I want to see it play when I'm good and ready, which is usually never, as most video is low-information attention-theft stuff selling what I want to learn, rather than being what I want to learn.

Re: Multi-media
faryl,

Not to mention that very large amounts of video consist either of talking heads (I can read it myself, thank you, and understand it better without an actor delivering it sententiously) and "impact shots," i.e. very short clips whose purpose is to catch reader attention, not to add information (often it also adds misleading information).

Ooyalla seems to be bent on describing how to make a site that I don't want to go to.
