Re: APIs are the key
I would hope there will be option for recycling. If not it's little too much to imagine all the hardware waste from old equipment.

Re: APIs are the key
@Mike: Couldn't have said any better.

Backward compatibility has always been a priceless feature in the industry and hence we were all for hybrid models as you said. Need to come up with a feasible transformative approach to address and minimize gaps when you think about new vs old.

Re: APIs are the key
As much as we like to write and talk about the new technologies, the old equpment and systems are currently supporting millions of customers, so I think we're in for hybrid models for a while. But figuring out how to do the new with the old, like Level 3 and others, is really transformative in the short term.

Re: APIs are the key
@Adi Aside from the expense, which I know is considerable, I also wonder at the waste. What then happens to all that equipment? Does it just get hauled to a landfill, or does someeone go through the trouble of taking it apart and recycling what can be used?

APIs are the key
<The key thing for us is that we have standard APIs and protocols>

What is most important for both operators and the industry in general that development/technology evolution can continue, and as long as they can plug old tech into new tech without huge and expensive integration excercises, they can progress. The reality is we will have to deal with legacy investments - as Scola points out --

<we are not throwing away equipment until it is end-of-life>

And few operators can afford to.

Level 3 on APIs
The level 3 API has standards like ETSI etc. I like that the API have the cloud interconnected and 5 gigabytes and other things that they offer.
