Re: Culture Reason
It's hard to juggle the two. Good quality vs free. I'm in the middle here. I'm a big fan of free content, but wouldn't mind paying for something I really wanted

@mpouraryan:

You said it right, we all have a choice. I belive the issue is we have little too many choices. And that's where the challenge is.

I am not Amazon fan either, but we are more into Netflix content.

Re: Are you in the content business or aren't you?
As I read @Adi's thoughts, Yahoo came to mind as it lost focus and look at where it is now--it is indeed a lesson to be learnt by all who are trying to be "all things to all people".

Amazon is doing some interesting things with the "Channels"--although I personally don't particular care for it.  It can be a potential model.

Re: Culture Reason
There is a cost--and if you do it right, there still can be monetization.   Crackle does it rather neatly as the ads embedded are actually pretty cute..and one really does not notice.   So, there are "possibilities"--to paraphrase Mr Spock.

Re: Culture Reason
What is clear is choice.  As I write this, I have a movie playing in the background over crackle (a FireTV app).  I note this to validate what our "guest" noted.  I am also not that real a fan of Amazon's original programming--but I will note this:  Some of APPS (including Ted; Economist & others) are pretty cool which I have been checking out.

@Joe:

Yes, providing free content has become kind of norm these days. Obviously quality is one key factor that stands out in the crowd. But the challenge is maintaining the quality and sustaining in the competition for long period.

@dcawrey:

I agree that many of these are low cost subscriptions. But when you think about average consumers the first thought could be subcription based Vs free services. And thought just ends right there with out even thinking about how small that cost is. I think that is where the difference is..
