Re: Slovak Pay TV
True. I guess if they start out slow and small they have room to grow and experiment.

Re: Slovak Pay TV
@batye - It's a viable strategy if you are a comparatively rich incumbent, and you want to get rid of the competition. If you can take a loss for a while, and the competition can't, then you can claim the market. But it's a long shot -- you have to deal with the financial implications of the losses you would run up, plus consumer advocates and potentially regulators who might see through the plan and come after you.

Re: Slovak Pay TV
@dcawrey - I think that's the big challenge for smaller markets. You hit a hard limit relatively quickly, and then where do you go? At a minimum it makes the business case for new service development much tougher.

Re: Online Streaming
@afwriter - I think it might be a function of the content available. Luana did discuss the value associated with different types of content in Slovakia in Part II. Basically, Hollywood/US content is valued, but it's not as significant. So there's not quite as much incentive to go OTT -- good stuff is all on broadcast from a slovak consumer's POV.

I am a little surprised that OTT is not bigger.  I wonder if online streaming is a factor in this at all.  If Slovakians are not getting the content they want through traditional outlets they could turn to the internet.

Re: Slovak Pay TV
I guess with so many subscribers already onboarded, what's the next cool technology? You obviously cannot grow when you can't add new subs, unless you're willing to undercut the competition.
