Re: Virtual Reality for TV
@mhhf1ve - there is not enough value - as it currently stands - to either make an investment or to view with VR.  Unless it becomes a truly compelling viewing experience, customers won't make additional investments in the latest "gadgets".

VR For TV
Not sure VR for TV is going to get much traction as fewer people will be watching TV in the future, according to surveys posted on our own site. It's not worth it for TV unless you have a really big theater-sized screen.  Personally, I wouldn't want to have to wear a headset.

we may just have to wait for the market to mature and for the supply to improve and come down in price enough to appeal to more people.

Re: Virtual Reality for TV
@mhhhf1ve - I think that is really the challenge. There are cheaper alternatives to high-end headsets, but then if the experience isn't that compelling, how do you sell it to new users?

Re: Virtual Reality for TV
@faryl - I think we are seeing different options emerge for VR equipment -- from the "magic window" approach which works on mobile phones and PCs, to low-end cardboard type devices all the way up to really high-end VR headsets. There's also the virtual view approach, which replicates a movie theatre experience but the video is regular 2D, just set in a virtual theatre or box seats in a stadium.

Those cheap cardboard setups for smartphones to act like VR.. aren't great for the VR experience. VR hardware just needs to get a LOT smaller and cheaper before it can go mainstream...

Re: Virtual Reality for TV
One thing that will be interesting to watch is the ability to use existing hardware (e.g., cell phones) for VR. The cost of 3-D headsets seemed to be a barrier to their heavy adoption; maybe VR will learn from some of that technology's shortcomings.
