Re: Strange Times
@Adi but aren't the enhancements of resolution kind of wasted on the small screen of a smartphone?

Re: Strange Times
@afwriter - for sure. There's always industry pressure to bump up quality as more advanced devices roll-out, and indeed from device manufacturers to get you to buy more advanced devices. There was an announcement at CES last week from the UHD Alliance, which can now certify mobile devices that meet their criteria as being "UHD Premium." That should help push more 4K content on to smartphones.

Re: 4K Video
People want to see vivid video, not grainy YouTube-style stuff.

In addition, many people now have devices that support 4K. So we're going to see a lot more of this format in the future - that's just another advancement in the content we view.

Strange Times
<We conducted an analysis and found that we are delivering content to over 3,300 unique device types per hour. These devices range from Roku 4, which is 4K compatible, to a Windows Phone which is far from it. Our ability to maintain a consistent quality of service across the population of devices that receive our content is daunting as there is a significant variation in characteristics and capabilities between devices.>

It's kind of funny to think that older technologies are making it more difficult for companies like Level 3 to do their job. Will we see a vast improvement in speed and quality when 4K devices are more standard?
