Who remembers Apple TV?
It makes sense that Sky would partner with Roku. I remember when your two options were Apple TV and Roku and that was it. Now it seems like everyone has their own streaming OS with Sony probably being the closest conteder to Roku. I have both Sony and Roku devices along with experience with a few other UIs and I have to say that Rokus OS/UI is far and above better than anyone elses. It offers way more channels and it is way easier to navigate and download apps than any other device.

Streaming Opportunity for them
I liked how they talked about smart TV because they have advances technolgy for us to use and my customers or subcribers. I know that the video part of it will increas as well when times goes on.

@clrmoney I see the trend in Canada everyones buys smart tv's getting rid of old one -instead of adding just the box... too much waist... in my books how I see it...

For the first time I heard a TV show in the States advertise the upcoming premiere of a series "coming up wherever you watch "Nick Jr." instead of "coming up after this..." or "at 7pm."
Roku
I personally never owned a Roku, but a few of my friends have it. They seemed to love it. I personally bought a Google ChromeCast and it was alright. I a, not using ChromeCast now. The reason is that it just was a pain to use and it kept loading and loading. I don't use it. I also have a Smart Tv and I liked it at first and I still do but not enough of options. So I have many streaming options. Now-a-days there are so many different streaming methods like Google ChromeCast, Rok, Sony, Smart Tv and so many other products.
I know in the future the technology will increase and we will use it no matter what it is.

@dchampagne70 to make sure Chromecast work properly you must have network adapter attached to it and you device also must be conected to wired network to get good speed and to make it work... Chromecast must have it almost the same setup as Steam gaming box... everything wired to get best results :)

vnewman - that's interesting. So the linear/scheduled programming is not the "lead" anymore. It was inevitable -- but still interesting that we've got there.
I hear frequently from parents of toddlers (or just older than that) kids no longer understand schedules. Trying to explain to them that a show isn't on yet, and will only come on later that day - they don't get it. Instead they try to swipe on the TV screen to show silly daddy that of course the show is on!
So for Nick, it would make even more sense to push their OD service as their audience is made of "post-linear" viewers.

That's an interesting thing to hear. I've never tried any device outside of an Amazon Fire Stick. Which works for us just fine, so much so that we actually have a few of them. But then since I've never actually tried Roku I suppose I have no way of knowing Roku would be better. It could also depend on your needs. While we use streaming services over having cable or dish, we really don't have much variety in our streaming services. In fact we just started with Sling and I'm not even sure if it's worth it for us. Mostly television is controlled by my children, and they are pretty happy just bouncing back and forth between Netflix and Amazon.

I didn't even think about Amazon, they are probably up there with Roku and Sony. I chose sony because their operating system is built into their smart TVs, smart blu ray players, and, of course, the Playstation.
I have cable for a few more months and have thought about using Sling, but like you said, my kids hop around Netflix and Amazon much more than they watch the actual cable.

Interesting perspective. Never thought of it as "linear" and "nonlinear" viewers. If that's the case, I would believe that scheduled programming will certainly one day be a thing of the past. Streaming services like Roku, Amazon, etc ..., are not going away and will only improve with time to appease these "nonlinear" viewers.
