Your welcome Mike, thanks everyone for all the great questions.
Great job, Mike and Joann. Thank you.
all tmf open apis are rest based and we are extending them to cater for hypermedia, so these will all be very compatible and will open up new opportunities for companies that apply them
Thanks everyone for joining us. And thank you Joann.
some telcos have teams of develoepers today. however, i think hackathons provide good opportunity for the telcos to engage with lots of developers. some telcos expose capabilities today to developers, so a guarded yes, as some already do.
what roles will HTML 5 and open web play in regards to APIs?
re question on RFPs from telco... they are asking for relevant apis to the RFP, so for example product catalog, product ordering, product inventory management apis
re enterprise v's end user... the apis are designed for enterprise grade solutions, i think the ultimate value is in the B2B2C space, so the end user should gain through improved consistent customer experience
re how the telcos are deploying the apis. the apis are deployed in 14 countries today and aiming for 24 by the end of the year
Joann, will telcos need to learn how work with developers, or even hire their own teams of developers?
Open APIs can be used with security standards such as Oauth and connectID
i see that either the 3rd party or the CSP could be the aggregator of new services, depending on context. The aggregator or curator will design the new services based on best in breed.
The operator will bring infrasturture capabilities but also some of their rich services. Hence the notion of complex value fabrics!
yes, governance is a high priority. we have prioritized it in the tmf open api project.
Great show, thanks! Looking forward to hosting next week's program with Adam Dunstan.
Here's one from below Joann:
Joann - At a very high level, do you see the operator's model then evolving into an app aggregator for third-party apps/services -- so the 3rd party brings the best-of-breed tech and operator brings network capabilities and subscriber, billing realtionships etc?
Governance is not a high priority? I suppose every community is different and some can be left to their own devices, as it were.
I'm in agreement on the IoT ecosystems
Are there security concerns stemming from opening up APIs? How can they be managed?
Poll answer: Enabling IoT ecosystems
unlocking data silos is another top issue
Poll
What is the biggest driver for using open APIs?
Creating inter-carrier APIs
Adding new software to existing systems and applications
Unlocking data silos
Enabling mobile applications
Enabling IoT ecosystems
How well are telcos progressing in developing and implementing APIs to partner with other telcos?
How does the Open API initiative relate to the 5G PPP service model and 5G architecture interfaces (towards the enterprise customer for the various verticals)?
Wow. Eliminating robot down time sounds great. So too does the smart cities usage.
Do you think that's more of an enterprise oriented opportunity, or consumer-oriented (in terms of end-user)?
What types of APIs are operators asking for in their RFPs?
And what's the timeline for that, in your opinion?
Joann - At a very high level, do you see the operator's model then evolving into an app aggregator for third-party apps/services -- so the 3rd party brings the best-of-breed tech and operator brings network capabilities and subscriber, billing realtionships etc?
@Liz haha! It's still early in the day ;)
whew glad you made it Michelle....thought maybe the weather turned Wizard of Oz on you, and you had to go into hiding

Good morning/afternoon everyone! Remember to turn up your volume on the computers. At the top of the hour an audio player will pop up on your screen. If you don't see it, try to press F5 to refresh your screen. Remember, there's no slides for this it's just a discussion, so be sure to post your questions, comments and thoughts on the message boards and we will join you on the chat after the audio stream.
the show countdown has begun! almost time
thanks Liz! always careful.
Hi Great weather here in the Bay Area
Stay safe @Michelle and have that weather radio at the ready. We've been lucky so far here in IL.
I think "interoperability" might be one of my favorite concepts in tech -- if only it were always possible!!
Good morning all! It's good to see a busy room. The weather here (Tornado Alley, Texas) is nice for now, but is supposed to turn severe in the afternoon.
Looking forward to hearing from Joann on today's show.
Looking forward to the show today! How's everyone doing this morning? Beautiful weather in NC.
Will be interesting to hear how this could affect broader strategies for operators in time
am looking forward to this!
Hello to all :) I do hope to attend should be interesting show and chat after :)
Looking forward to hearing from Joann!
Truly open API's and rapid integration and deployment are the dream -- it will be interesting to see how far the TM Forum has been able to make it a reality. Facilitating rapid deployment of new apps, both in-house and 3rd party developers, would create entirely new business opportunities for service providers.
looking foward to this show!
