The "experience" is part of why HDR and other non-resolution advances exist. I think the marginal benefit of anything beyond 4K is questionable. Or maybe I just need better glasses.... Unless you have a TV screen that is above 60 inches, at least I don't believe 4K will do much for you. And unless your screen is 100 inches or so, 8K is pretty pointless. In urban areas, specially outside the US, I'm not sure that many people have the wall space to go much beyond 40-45 inches. Some of the UHD TV's I saw in booths at IBC looked great -- but they could probably eat my entire apartment for breakfast. But HDR and WCG have an impact at all screen sizes, and the payload impact is about 30%, so much less than uprezzing to 4K. I think we are on our way to 4K -- it's happening now, whether it makes a difference or not. But I think we'll see HDR, WCG and HFR all get included, and that will create a significantly better experience. I also think we'll see 4K deployed more judiciously than HD, at least to start with. Ha! Yah, the number of people who could accomodate an IMAX theater in their home is probably negligible.... At some point, though, I suppose people will mount displays on the ceiling directly over their beds so that they can watch an enormous screen... Maybe TVs will come in Queen/King/Cal-King sizes someday....
