Re: TV suscribers growing more and more
Maybe the additions will continue for emerging markets that are getting a first taste of paid television content. However, North America is moving pretty quickly away from regular television. OTT is on the move, and I don't think that is going to change.

Yearly Numbers
@Adi I think it would be interesting to see a year long graph of Pay TV subscription versus cancellation to see what times of year effect pay tv subscription the most. The obvious answer would be lowest in the summer and highest in the fall but it would still be great to see a visual.

Who's Watching TV?
While seeing a recent news story while flipping through channels I questioned who had not heard the story yet and why it would need to be rehashed another day. Then it dawned on me that people like my wife's aunt, who doesn't even own a cell phone or computer, are still using pay TV to connect to the outside world.

Re: This is Pay-TV only..
mhhf1ve - there's a few multiplatform/multiscreen reports. Nielsen does one as well.

Overall video viewing has grown dramatically, cord cutting or not. I'm pretty sure linear TV viewing has dropped by far less than OTT has grown, in terms of time spent. Spoke to a Danish operator yesterday who said their linear usage has dropped 8 minutes in the past couple of years, but VoD usage has almost tripled in the same time...and that's not including OTT services that people get outside of their platform (they offer Netflix, HBO integrated on their STB).

Re: This is Pay-TV only..
I think Nielsen might track OTA viewership.. but I haven't seen recent numbers.. only the trend that OTA viewership has been in the decline since the 1980s when it was at its peak.

This is Pay-TV only..
Does anyone track the overall TV-watching audience -- including OTA TV and non-pay-TV viewers? (I wonder how YouTube and other ad-based streaming services would count..)

I'd guess that more people than ever before watch some form of video now, but maybe the cord-cutters are making those numbers seem like the trend isn't monotonically increasing....

TV suscribers growing more and more
They said they added more like the 4 million providers like last year. I'm not suprised with these numbers because people watch a lot of TV and number are still rising in different countries.
