Re: How much control do they really retain over the physical assets?
I can definitely see why Verizon would buy them, it makes sense. However, I never saw it coming!

Hmm. I wonder if Amazon would spin off its AWS physical assets....

(I guess it's okay to if you're just maintaining clients and not actively trying to push the envelope of the cloud.)

I think its just because the compnay knows managed services is a better business to be in. No need for physical upkeep, its all more about maintaining for clients. Seems like a great margin business to be in.

Re: How much control do they really retain over the physical assets?
It seems a bit strange that Verizon wouldn't want to control at least some of the physical assets that operate their data centers and underlie their services. Maybe it's just not a skillset Verizon wants to build up for itself. Or maybe it just can't focus, as you say, if it tries to bite off too much.

Re: How much control do they really retain over the physical assets?
Verizon just seems really focused on services these days. Also, they want to own a piece of the content that goes through their network - which is why they are buying Yahoo. It's a different world than perhaps maybe many of us thought it would be.

Verizon & CenturyLink Datacenters
This is very interesting that Cystera has brought Verizon's/CenturyLink data centers for 1.86 Billion. It must be very valuable and useful that they offer for them etc.

How much control do they really retain over the physical assets?
I'm wondering what happens when the services want/need to upgrade the datacenters in a significant way that requires a lot more than just new software or swapping out CPUs...?
