It took me a while to give up my landline, but after I did, I wondered why I had hung onto it for so long. I think because it was part of the package. One day, mentioning a landline phone will be like talking about a vinyl record. I know I don't personally spend that much time on smartphones because I use my laptop. However, I do know people who prefer smartphones for everything. On one hand, operators want customers using their networks, it justifies their invetsment. But on the other hand, the volume of traffic and the pace at which it continues to ramp up is geniunely scary. They said they had 4.07 trillion megabytes by 2015 so imagine how more will that be as time goes on.
