Re: ATSC 3.0 Offers Compelling Features
I'm more of an American Football guy myself, haha. I bet that this feature will get BT some attention though.

afwriter - Are you willing to move to the UK for that? BT is offering it for the Champion's League final.

DirecTV also has that feature. The one that I am the most interested in is being able to choose multiple camera angles. I could see where some diehard sports fans would find that feature priceless.

Re: ATSC 3.0 Offers Compelling Features
@elizabethv  It was the DVR and the 200 Mbps, which suits me fine. I also got a landline again, but I will use it mainly for faxing. I don't think I'm ready to cut the cord. I enjoy watching things on TV and flicking through the channels.

Re: ATSC 3.0 Offers Compelling Features
@srufolo1 - With free DVR, I can see why you decided to sign up with them again. I would never go back to having a "cord" without DVR. I would be interested in television services to mobile devices, but mostly I'd be interested in being able to access Amazon or Netflix without WiFi and without using Data. Amazon has a lot of downloadable content, Netflix can up their game in that area though.

Re: ATSC 3.0 Offers Compelling Features
srufolo1  - It may not be. The big advantage over-the-air services have is that they are free. If ATSC 3.0 gives you all of these features and you may not have to pay a monthly fee, that might be of interest. But I think there will also be people who say, "You know what, I've got all this from my cable operator along with a hundred and fifty channels ATSC can't give me, so I'm good."

Re: ATSC Statistics
freehe - Consumer surveys are a tool in a broader attempt to guage consumer sentiment. They are better than making up a strategy in a vacuum, or "trusting your gut", which is usually more about personal ego than anything else.

But surveys are a basic tool. Consumers themselves don't know what they want, future technologies are not always easy to imagine. What they say is an indication of their response to a certain amount of information, and how it is presented.

I think what consumers ultimately spend and buy is dependent on how the product is marketed and positioned, what kind of content and applications show up and are used by the early adopters, their own TV viewing habits and whole host of other issues. So a lot of the value in survey analysis is in the analysis -- how you interpret the data and analyze it, lloking at the specific wording of the questions and responses alongside prior adoption data for similar products, marketing efforts, economic trends etc.

Re: ATSC 3.0 Offers Compelling Features
@Adi Then what makes ATSC 3.0 so compelling for consumers? I hate to admit this, but I just had Optimum installed again. They were having a Pre Summer sale I couldn't pass up. It has free DVR. I will have to start using it.

ATSC Statistics
"According to the study, the benefits of ATSC 3.0 helped convince consumers to spend $205 more than they originally planned on their smart TVs (from $905 to $1,155). And the likelihood they would purchase such a TV in the next 12 months also rose -- from 55% to 74%.

Among those who had no intention of purchasing a smart TV, 45% decided they would be interested in purchasing one after understanding the features offered by the new broadcast standard."

I find these statistics hard to believe. I believe only a small segment of consumers purchase or are considering purchasing smart TVs.

I would also be interested to know if the study respondents were show advertisements or anything else other than just the benefits of ATSC for the survey.
