Re: OPNFV is Delivering on the Vision
@dcawrey, I like your analogy!  Baseball players have a clear target and it is already known what skills they need!

I fully agree with your assessment of technology.  It requires a "rethinking" if what we currently have in place fits, displaces, needed redesign, or total transformation, if put to use.  So it first requires us to assess and think - then discover and test - then build - then ramp up for full market use.  That does take time.  However, once done, it expedites future opportunities for growth and opens new doors.

Re: OPNFV is Delivering on the Vision
Technology takes longer than the time it takes for a baseball player to develop. I still have a lot of hope for NFV, it's just going to take time for the technology to properly develop. I think we're seeing the same thing in the fields of IoT and VR as well.

@clarkede, how impressive your "pioneering".  Congratulations on being a visionary to a successful venture.

It sounds as if solving these interoperability problems may be a big key to further growth with NFV.  That is great they are focusing on solving that problem.

Re: OPNFV is Delivering on the Vision
Good to see you here, Don Clarke. And to hear your opinions. In addition to working for CableLabs, Don is also a council chairman for ETSI. Don was also on the ground floor of NFV when he was with BT. Don, did you watch Steve Saunder's BCE video or read his blog that were linked in this story? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. Thanks

OPNFV is Delivering on the Vision
As one of the founders of OPNFV and a member of the OPNFV End User Advisory Committee, I am very satisfied with the progress that has, and is, being made by the OPNFV community. OPNFV is primarily an integration project to create a reference platform using open source components, and to validate that those open source components are interoperable and can deliver telco-grade capabilities. And to be a vehicle for collaborative contributions on new features and bug fixes to those same open source communities, based on OPNFV integration and validation insights. OPNFV has delivered on all of these goals. As more network operators globally begin to consider deploying NFV in anger, they will recognise the valuable role of OPNFV. Moreover, the new solution specifications coming out of ETSI NFV this summer will boost prospects for interoperability and encourage the conformance and validation program being developed within OPNFV.

Go OPNFV
The OPNFV does a lot and has a lot to offer for the companies and customers who use it. I know there will be more in the future.
