CenturyLink​ with video
Video 4K and AR are very useful and a asset for CenturyLink etc. This will also have an impact on the customers because we use video everyday. I know there will be more to come from the video world.

Still searching for the killer app
Sounds like when it comes to 4K, CenturyLink is in the same position as everyone else -- they know it's coming but they don't know what the application (or programming) that will drive people into it is going to be. So we're still all in the same boat on that one.

Dipping their bucket where they are
It's a good point that no matter what, demand is skyrocketing for video, and supply bandwidth and service for video is very expensive, so video has to be made a profit center; it can't be just a mediocre part of the offerings, and it really can't be a loss leader.  If it's a profit center, then the growth of video will be a strong enhancement for CenturyLink and if it's not much of an  earner, or even expensive, it will drag CenturyLink down the drain. So focusing on "how can we make sure video intrinsically makes money" is a pretty smart focus.

It's a tricky one. UHD TVs are selling well, faster than HD at the same stage. Most prime-time production now is in UHD...but first-run, premium TV content is still a small percentage of the programming wheel. And most people can't tell UHD from HD unless they have a 60 inch screen. So given the shortage of content and the monumental increase in bandwidth required, it's not surprising service providers want to look before they leap.

@Adi do you know off the top of your head the percentage of TVs sold under/over 60 inches? In my anecdotal experience, I feel like 60 is usually the smallest being purchased unless the screen is for a specific small space.

It has to be incredibly hard to make money given all of the aspects of video delivery; and I'm not even talking about competition.

Wise Decision
I'm glad to hear Century Link is working on pulling in 4K. Century Link is cheaper, at least where I am, than Comcast. But I don't use it because so many people complain about their speed. Even when I was living with my in-laws for a brief period of time a few years ago, they had Century Link. It was iffy at best more often than not. It just isn't worth it to me to have iffy internet service. But if they are working on changing that, I can definitely see how they're pulling in new customers.

@clrmoney. I agree. Century Links saw an opportunity to increase revenue as well as provide more values to customers. They are not used focus on profit but also concerned about meeting their customers needs. This is how all companies should operate.

What they Want
Century Link gets it. They asked customers what they wanted and found a way to proivde it to them even though they don't offer the service internally. This is how all companies should operate. Customer value and customer focus is key.
