SD-WAN Transformation rises more and more
SD-WAN is very popular when it comes to networking and the internet etc. So I know that it will be an increase of customers and services they have to offer.

@clrmoney yes, I could not agree more and I trust you are right, we only gonna see it growing as technology develops and customers want it...

SD_WAN Capabilities
SD-WAN brings new capabilities for control and optimization of the flow of data traffic with centralized monitoring, SDN controller directed automated operations, distribution of traffic across the system to avoid local choke points, abstraction of complexity and reconfiguring the network to reduce the hops in data flows.

These are potential winning elements for SD-WAN. Any optimization of data traffic is always welcomed to great extent. Distribution of traffic also seems like a good option that can make a difference.

International Stats
On a critical route between San Jose and Shanghai, the response time variation was 150% last year with an average of four seconds and a high of 40 seconds. On the Dubai-London route it was higher at 181%.

Very interesting stats. The variations look appealing and as the author explained poor response time could be due to increase of WAN traffic.

AI for Network Optimization
It is very impressive to know how Aria Networks has used its platform of machine learning, genetic algorithms and other AI techniques to optimize physical and virtual networks for companies. And as it is explained the optimization is targeted for an objective function, such as faster response or lower costs under known set of constraints, such as policy and energy costs. Interresting to read.

Re: AI for Network Optimization
Glad you found the topic interesting. Telecom's use of AI to solve (rather than just detect) network problems has taken on a new urgency and a new value, because of software-defined networking and NFV. The conventional cycle times to plan, design, build, measure and repeat are not months any more, but minutes. Operators who truly want to move fast and smart, can - those who really don't, will be putting their businesses at greater risk. Happy to discuss further - contact via www.aria-networks.com.

Re: AI for Network Optimization
AI for networks is going to be extremely valuable. I don't know what network engineers are going to think about it, but more optimization is always good.

Can you imagine how much companies would pay for something like this?

It is all in the end about optimistizatoin of resources---how they are leveraging it is fascinating on a multitude of levels no doubt.

Re: AI for Network Optimization
I am beginning to think that SDN and NFV are simply precursors for an AI-driven network environment.

Hopefully we're not heading towards Skynet territory here, but it is the future!

It will certainly be interesting to be write about it and be witness to it.  I think it is something that we should welcome though, right?

Re: AI for Network Optimization
@dcawrey you're quite right. SDN decouples control from data. NFV decouples function from hardware. AI is what decouples operational process from humans to weigh up and make all the decisions.  The virtualization transformation needs all three components to succeed - hence why SDN/NFV initiatives plateau.

Exactly! They'd spend so much to have this. It'll also be interesting to see where it goes from here.

Re: AI for Network Optimization
@robertC:

Very true. The software definition concept into networking is kind of forcing telecom companies to adapt AI features. As you mentioned little to no time in getting thru the cycle would help companies to get there really fast.

I understand that there is risk for others that don't gte into the game. If they are lagging behind for a reason they must have proper risk mitigation planned out so they can catch up later.

I will explore the web site. Thanks.
